After installing all of my apps I ran Quadrant and my score was less than 900

Lokhor: I'm not seeing any lag at all. Maybe because when I upgraded I had done a factory reset and the only apps on my phone were those with the base firmware. Whatever, I'm happily using Launcher Pro. I also tried ADW Launcher for half an hour with no issues at all.

The phone now feels much better than it ever did on Android v 2.1 lag-fixed or not.

I also started using a new 16GB MicroSD today. It's completely empty.

Maybe all that helped.

I did a factory reset after installing Froyo and then installed my apps using titanium backup. I have now put OCLF on and it's a lot smoother. hopefully Voodoo fix is coming soon.

OCLF says it can't root my phone. What version are you using? I got the latest from the Market. It's all red (unavailable) except for the check free space.

As for Titanium....I have a couple of a bad experiences and I prefer to just re-install my apps.

I especially wouldn't use Titanium going from Android v2.1 to v2.2.....Restores across system upgrades can be dodgy in any context.

My phone is still running fine. I was thinking of doing some apps2sd Froyo-style in a few days to see how that performs.

Sorry for that late reply, spent most of the weekend working on stuff round the house and my bike.
My phones old root file was I9000XXJF3(but i don't think you need that becuase you've got it working!!! Good to be finally on Official Froyo :)

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

I have about 150 apps installed now and I haven't re-booted the phone since about 3pm yesterday. I'm seeing what I guess you could call "lag", but it's not a big issue at this point. Some of the apps I'm starting are big apps, so it is "lag" or just loading a lot of data?

Jury is still out.

As for the RAM manager...if "aggressive" means it's killing stuff, you *may* be contributing to slower peroformance by requiring the phone to re-load things that it would have kept in memory had they not been killed (and the memory not required for other things). That could actually slow you down rather than speed you up.

Android's memory management is pretty good. If it needs more memory to service your activities in the foreground it will kill old stuff to make room. I've sat and watched a logcat scroll by doing that and it encouraged me to trust the way Android does things for itself. My subjective, fumbling efforts to improve performance probably don't hold a candle to the testing and research done by Google in determining the memory management model's optimal performance.

The phone is working well. I do note when the battery gets lower it does more aggressively slow things down to conserve power. I think there is option somewhere to turn that off and on. I also note that my battery is usage is now 84% attributed to the display....so either everything else is now using less power or the display is using more. Battery life seems much the same.

I don't know the answers....I'm working out what the questions are. :-)

To install OCLF you have to use a different root, search for Super One Click. It requires a PC to root though. Loading of apps taking ages is lag and caused by the subpar RFS filesystem that Samsung use. Voodoo lagfix should solve this soon, Supercurio is working hard on it.

As Froyo supports apps2sd, maybe moving apps to the sdcard will get around the RFS issue for many apps.

I leave widgets in the internal app storage - on other phones - but maybe for the Galaxy S getting them out of RFS might actually speed them up.

Must play with this later. I see Angry Birds installed itself to the sdcard without having to be told. Well done them.

I just wanted OCLF for the one-click root side of it.

My G-S is performing well enough I'm not worried about any lag at this point. It's actually better than it was with Eclair and the OCLF v2.1.2.

There is no downside to the registry hack..

I have not tested the tracking ability of my GPS, however I did get a very fast lock to 11 satellites. Will need to test properly maybe on the way home I'll run My Tracks
