Foo:
The reason I ask is that the battery on the Acer A500 seems to last a few days after a full charge. It can only be charged via AC - USB won't cut it.

Hmmm, some interesting findings:

I finished running the device down last night to 8% (a long session of Angry Birds, all in the name of research) and then switched it into flight mode for overnight. Approx 8hrs later it still had 8% - great to know that flight-mode on the device uses squat-all power on standby.  I continued to run the battery down to 4% (more Angry Birds), then switched the tablet off and began charging on my laptop's USB 2.0 port...

4 hours later it was showing just 28% - and when I switched the tablet on to confirm the percentage it had a little red X next to the charge meter, probably indicating that there wasn't sufficient current to charge and power the device from a single USB port (100mA typical, 500mA max I believe).  At that rate a powered-off full charge would take almost 16 hours - not something you can do overnight!

The supplied wall charger charges at a rate of 2A over USB however, so charging is much quicker, I haven't confirmed but I think it is more like 6 hours for a full charge in this case, probably more if the tablet is on while charging.

Anyway, after much umm-ing and ahh-ing I've decided to sell it simply because it doesn't support USB peripherals and HDMI-out yet, though I suppose the dongles/cables will come.  You can find it on TM, link is also in the F/S forum if interested.

I read something similar on a tech site (sorry can't remember where exactly) that a full charge over USB would take over half a day.

The way I see it, you need to charge via mains, but if you do need a 'top up' to last an hour or so, USB will do the trick.

For a mains charge, 6 hours to do a full charge does seem like a long time to me. I ran my A500 completely flat (down to 3%) and I'm sure it only took 2 - 3 hours to fully charge. Battery size may be different between the A500 and Samsung though?

I'll test it today and let you know.

Hmmm, battery stats from Phone Arena:

Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1v - battery = 6860 mAh

Acer ICONIA TAB A500  - battery = 3260 mAh

Does this mean in theory you should get twice the battery life from the Samsung? I say "in theory" because we know that will not be the case. I'm finding I need to charge the A500 every 2 - 3 days, mainly use it for e-book reading and surfing the net. Keen to see if I can use it for taking notes in meetings instead of writing, but writing is generally so much quicker!

The Iconia Tab i think has 2x3260mAh batteries, so 6520 mAh in total
