Hmm got past that issue, flashed it .

Problem is now all i get is a screen that says cyanogen 7 seemingly with and endless loop?

Did you do a factory reset in recovery before rebooting?

Nope, just reboot into recovery (Power + Vol up) and do a ful wipe of everything except SD card and then reflash the ROM

Ive been trying to get into recovery but no joy.
Is there a set length of time to hold the buttons down.?
what im doing is remove battery, replace hold the vol up but in and then push the power button?
wish i couls speak on the phone, be quicker .
anyway trying again

Yeah, hold them down till you enter recovery. Up to 10 sec.

Luckily it's not too different from 2.2. Just a few more advanced settings and decent perf increases.

another noob question.
advice on the sd card partitioning etc?
sizes and how to go about it?

did have a look at this link

what size partitions recommended?
Have a 2 g card

Hi bradstewart,
I have been googling info about the Huawei X1 (U8180) in order to root and to change the rom.
I came accross this thread and just had to register!

Could you tell me if your ROM and approach will work on my Huawei X1 which is currently LOCKED to Optus Australia?  (Or is it only for those on Telecom NZ?)

The latest version is generic so it should work without hassle. As always do a backup in recovery before flashing the ROM just in case something goes wrong.
