I sent my Note 8 on Saturday afternoon and got an email a few minutes ago (Tuesday arvo) confirming condition A and that payment would be made in 10-15 days.

Very straightforward, and their price with the $300 bonus is clearly above market rate...

landcruiserguy: If anyone is new to Samsung then a life pro tip of to download Disconnect Pro Privacy and Performance from the Galaxy app store. It's a system level add blocker that uses the firewall built into Knox to block any known add domains so it works in all apps on your phone. This app isn't in the play store because add blockers violate the Google terms and conditions cos those guys love adds. On a similar note Samsung internet is a great browser which (unlike chrome) allows you to install an add and tracking blocker. Disconnect pro does cost $35 but I think it's worth it. Adds suck.

Hi, not new to Samsung but I'd never heard of this app until I saw your post. I like the sound of a system level ad blocker! Is is working OK on the Note 9? I tried searching for some reviews but didn't come up with much (most stuff relates to other products by Disconnect.me like the free browser apps etc). I did see a comment on a thread on Reddit saying it was blocking a lot of legitimate traffic and causing reboots on someone's Note 8. Have you found it stops any apps from working OK or causes any issues?

There are literally no user reviews or "stars" on the Galaxy App Store site for Disconnect Pro Privacy & Performance, only an article from Huffington Post dated 2016, which wasn't awfully informative.

If anyone is using this feel free to chime in.

I came across it when browsing Samsung forums after getting the s8+. There used to be a cheaper app that did the same thing called AdHell until that disappeared off the play store for various reasons.

Disconnect pro is great but comes with the stands limitations of all dns based add blockers. They don't block adds that come from the same dns as the content. When they block adds in an app you normal see a 404 type error in the place where the add would be. That's still better than seeing the add imho. Some apps, particularly the Google ones go crazy with retrys when they find their tracking requests are blocked. This causes wakelocks and battery drain. The solution is to whitelist those apps in disconnect pro which of course means that they then track you and you see adds. The main offenders are Google play services, Google play music and Google play newsreader. I have also whitelisted audible and YouTube. I basically just checked every morning and any app that made repeated requests woke the phone was unused while i was sleeping got whitelisted. I actually ended up uninstalling Google newsreader after i discovered how much data it was contributing to the global spy network and the fact that i couldn't block the tracking or adds without bad battery life.

You need three layers with add blockers. I run a PiHole on my home network which does network level dns add blocking on everything including the kids devices. I then run disconnect pro on my phone and another add blocker in the Samsung internet browser. I am trying to give up chrome but can't quite on Windows yet. Ib have tried but Firefox don't write do it for me.

So could a few of you try this so I can determine if I have a fault?

Tip your phone upside down and with the pad on your fore finger gently rub back and forward over the SPen. Does it move/rattle/click a bit?

It's annoying me, I am unsure if it's normal or a fault.

Oh so the samsung trade in has changed, it is now offering double the amount to trade in.

Last week my s9 plus was $924 now it is showing as $1252. Should have waited to trade in i guess. Think there might be a few unhappy people once they notice this.

Interesting. Originally they were going to offer me $523 for my grade A Note 4 (which is insanely good). That was the pre-Sept 2nd deal. Now they're offering $306. Still good, but I'm kicking myself for not actioning anything before Sept 2nd. I intended to but life got in the way and I forgot....

Ahhh crap. They have doubled the trade in value rather than giving the $300 boost. That means the crap s5 i brought of trade me is only worth
$232 but the s8+ i sold on trade me (for $690) is now worth $1062 which is better. I have already done a quote for the s5 and sent it away so i think i am ok. Keep in mind that that the double value is just for grade a devices so you are only one scratch away from tears.

It confuses me how they could change this as i checked the terms and conditions whole i was searching for crap old phones on trade me to trade in. Here is the relevant text:

When does the DOUBLE YOUR TRADE-IN promotion start?

Double your trade-in promotion starts on 6th September 2018.

When does the DOUBLE YOUR TRADE-IN promotion end?

Double your trade-in promotion ends on 23rd September 2018.

I was shocked to read that they have doubled the trade-in offer. After looking at the updated details, I haven't really missed out (thankfully) trading in my S7 and S7 Edge. Sympathies to those who have missed out - they really shouldn't better an offer straight away after one promotion ends.

WHAT!?!?!?! They should be required to NOT improve their offers based on their business strategy and perhaps not as much uptake as they wished, or for any other damn reason?

Maybe the offer at launch was lower than they could afford to tax the people that NEEEEEEEEDED to have the Note 9 on launch day? Maybe it's about pushing those that didn't upgrade at launch into buying now?

Sheesh. This place is confusing sometimes... I can't keep up with whether companies are allowed to raise prices, lower prices, keep prices the same, improve specials, remove specials etc...

The current offer looks like it only applies if you purchased the Note 9 between Sept 6th and 23rd. My phone would get a lot less than it would have with the original offer (as per my post a few up from this), but more than it would if I'd processed it between Sept 2nd and yesterday. I would have only got $153 last week, now I'd get $306.

Actually in my case I'd still only get $153 if I tried to trade it in today though, because I purchased my phone in August.

I agree they shouldn't better the offer with time...

They should be free to do whatever they want with the offer - it's just another way of discounting RRP.

Of course you are going to pay more to get something on release than later on - that's the UNIVERSAL law of purchasing tech!
