NZtechfreak: Fring does Skype calling.

Can anybody here who has run the small update tell me whether it fixes BT? Many may not have noticed it at all, but the problems with HID profile access really bug me on a number of fronts...

Why not just do the update and find out?

Whenever I have a device running very well I always like to get a changelog before applying an update, never know what bugs will come up in a new update eh?

Thanks for that Bendigo.

So Fringe didn't work for you on Skype then?

Why don't you wait for a Skype client to be released for our Android phones? :o

meanderingmark:  RE:  Phantom Skinz

I've ordered a set of matte skins.  If you're ordering them, don't forget to enter "summersale2010" as the coupon code, for 30% discount.

Hey, thanks for the coupon code.   Since I have the Zagg on already, I'm in no rush, so would you please let me know when you get this and what you think of it.   are they really like a naked screen?  Keen to give it a go if they are as good as they say they are.

Cheers,
Tim

Really?  gosh, you don't love the phone?  have you tried Fring?  Works ok for me except crashes when using SIP VoIP (I have an iTalk account), but I can live with that since VoIP works perfectly well with SIP Droid.

Skype Lite is on Android, but no 'support' for HTC Desire yet - I guess cause it's not released there [yet].
Should come soon though, from what I understand the Incredible is so similar to the Desire, and it works on that, so can't see why Desire support isn't far off. so maybe you can wait?

The version of skype out for android (on a single US carrier ONLY) isn't even VOIP, it uses the carrier voice minutes. Lame :(

I was SURE I saw a Motorola Droid running an Android Skype app at the official Skype website a few months ago, but when I tried again last week to see if there was support for our Desires, the whole Android section vanished lol... :o

On the VOIP topic, I use SIPAGENT on my phone at work through the wifi and into our VOIP PBX. Works beautifully and easy to set up. So in the office the phone is my landline and switches to cell outside.

I got a Desire on Friday and overall I'm pretty happy with it.

However, I get a touchscreen glitch every now and again where it doesn't register position properly - seems like maybe it's just getting the X coordinate, and keeping Y somewhere down the bottom (so the menu/phone/add item buttons get hit instead of whatever I am actually touching.

It goes away if I lock and unlock the screen.

Has anyone else come across this? I'd suspect a faulty screen, but the fact it intermittent and lock/unlock fixes it suggests a software issue to me.

I also wonder if maybe I'm touching the edge of the screen with the hand holding the phone, confusing it. I'm going to be very careful about that to see if it helps.

There is a proven hardware problem with the Desire and Nexus One's multi-touch. For some reason or rather, the phone confuses itself and this causes an "axis flip" when you simultaneously swipe up with one thumb and swipe down with the other.

I tried the test myself and unfortunately the Desire suffers from the same "axis confusion flip" problem as the N1. I haven't been bothered by it though.

Maybe that's what you're experiencing?

It could be that - next time it happens I'll try some experiments to see if that is what's happening. I guess if it is, my solution is to just be more careful when swiping.
