mckenndk: Lately my GSIII has been freezing while doing standard things, checking Facebook, browsing the web etc, yesterday it started randomly rebooting.

I took the SD card out and it never rebooted again for the rest of the day so we will see how it goes from here.

sounds like SDS, have you updated lately? try and get into recovery, if its SDs it won't go into it but will into download.

I have flashed the UK 4.1.2 onto it, I got it in July last year and is a 2degrees version. I need to check the phone again to see if its still running or if it has frozen or rebooted again.

The SD card corrupted recently so that's why I believe it is probably the culprit.

Have been using a Lumia 920 for the last week, so has not been too much of an issue for me yet.

I see today that EMMC Check was updated.
Previously when I ran it I got
Brick Bug - "No. Sane Chip"
Now I get
SGS3 Sudden Death?
Yes. Insane Chip.

I had the motherboard replaced at Christmas time with VTU00M, FwRev:0xf1

A couple of days lately my battery has gone flat very quickly.
C'mon Telecom.

You don't need to root handsets to update them to latest firmware

Hang on, so you can upgrade to 4.1.2 without rooting your phone if you're on 2D or Telecom right now instead of waiting for them to officially release the update? Will this potentially cause any issues because they haven't pushed it through yet?

Complete phone noob btw.

The only potential issue it "might" cause is that "IF" your phone breaks down due to some out of the blue reason.. and its not physical or water damage then the telco who you bought it from (2D or Telecom) might refuse to honor the warranty saying that your phone was flashed with non official firmware (that is, firmware thats not approved by them)

So if you're afraid of SDS and are considering updating to 4.1.2 on Telecom or 2D it's probably not a good idea then if you want to 100% ensure that you're going to be covered by warranty if it does happen?

Sigh, hurry up 2D/Telecom - why would they delay the update this long anyway if Vodafone has already made it available ages ago? What is the benefit to their customers exactly?

You can flash another Samsung official ROM without root and without voiding your warranty.

Mine's been freezing and randomly rebooting for a month now and is as slow as an almost-dead SGS3 could be. It's still hanging on though. I have waited long enough for the 2Degrees update. Time to flash a different official ROM.

My S3 is dated 5/12 and currently on custom 4.1.2 crDroid v 13 and running like a champion, no lag slowdowns. After about 16 odd hours yesterday it was on 50% battery with some reasonable usage.. For my usual usage, that's fantastic.

Although this applies to anyone using using Google Now not just the S3, here is a nice sideload APK to blackout or transparent the Widget and app.

I also noticed serious battery drain. I use stock touchwiz.
I really liked Google now but battery drain forced me disable it.I enable it every time they release new version but nothing improved.
I currently get 24 hours but with Google now may be around 10 hours. not really great if your are going out

I too use Google Now and haven't noticed any difference in battery drain.  I regularly get between 24 and 48 hours between charges, depending on if I've been playing games or not.
