Anyone tried this this yet to see if it helps with the nice lags and freezing that the latest 4.1.2 seems to like to bring every now and then?

I thought 4.1.2 was finally going to be the perfect firmware, but it's not.

Couldn't update to 2 Degrees 4.1.2 OTA as my phone shows as "Modified" but downloaded from Sam Mobile and flashed in Odin. Running sweet Smile

If anyone's in the same boat, you can download it from here

Elpie: I got the 2Degrees update as soon as it was released. A couple of days later I am still getting random reboots, phone locking up in the middle of calls, jerkiness on swipe, lags... and am ready to throw this piece of rubbish at a wall.

4.1.2 might have brought improvements but since I have a largely-unusuable phone I can't really tell. Today, it took 4 minutes to turn on. I expect a sudden death anytime now :-(

In that case I would return it to place of purchase with proof of purchase and get it sent away to the Samsung service agent

They won't consider it at this stage. I'm just hoping it stays somewhat usable for the next few weeks. Shame Vodafone isn't offering a trade-in deal for the dual-SIM version ;)

They have all been diverted to changing email passwords! ;-)

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Unfortunately Telecom have dropped the ball big time in the release of 4.1.2.

They appear, to me, based on a quick random run through of the providers on SamFirmware, to be the only telco left in the world that has not yet released 4.1.2.

Given all the SDS issues, which are supposedly fixed in 4.1.2, it is inconceivable that Telecom have left their customers hanging out to dry.

The Yahoo issue shouldn't be an excuse.

Shame.

What do you mean they wont consider it?

If its faulty they have to fix it or provide a replacement.

They would just say that its still running and they can see nothing wrong with it unless a random reboot happens right infront of them and then they would just take it in and flash a new rom and give it back after a few days

Unless the phone completely dies then they would I guess replace the motherboard

Thats not an acceptable answer by a supplier.
If a phone is dropping calls with full bars like mine does are they going to make 50 phone calls to test?

It most likely wont reboot in the 10 mintues I spend in store or even perhaps for the 15 mins atechncician may play with it but that doesnt mean its not faulty. When I pick mine up from repair I wont be accepting a 'no issue found' report.

Its a shame we have so much fraud in society because the net result is we now seemingly have distrust as the baseline and you have to prove and fight for everything to get whats fair.

Well I don't think you are being completely fair. They aren't saying they don't want to fix the problem, but without seeing the issue how will they know what to replace, repair or fix? Intermittent issues are as much a struggle for the company repairing them as the customer, they require a lot of time, and expense to resolve. If they "guess" and you get it back and it's still faulty, you are likely to be mad as hell they didn't fix it "properly" and may well post in some forum about how crappy the service is from xxx repairer.

What's everyone using for root and recovery these days? Seems to be a few recovery and root versions around including CWM touch, Philz and CF Auto Root. Ideally, I'd like to use something that will leave my phone status as "Normal" if possible

CWM is the one I have used my entire rooting career. I wouldn't easily switch.

Philz  is the recovery you want. Any of the custom kernels will give you root, none of them will give you " normal" status.

Yes, that's it.

Has a lot of nice features, including touch interface, built in pre-flash wipe command (formats /system, and a bunch of others prior to flashing a new room if you want. Handy).

Recovery has its own kernel and is basically a mini os of its own, independent of the kernel or ROM of the main system. You can format /system and still boot to recovery. Not true on previous devices I believe.

I'm currently using the Pegasus kernel BTW, tested the others found it to be best. Also using omega ROM, stable and I like the auto record for phone calls (you have to turn it on), makes life easier when getting calls from clients (address details etc auto recorded).

I'm enjoying the Kii keyboard at present, swipe features seem better than swype, having previous been a fan of purchased swift key.
