I noticed something interesting the other day. When using gloves (cheap, faux-woolen, I guess they're polyester or something) I can't even unlock my screen (very sporadic recognition of touching). However, on my wife's phone it appears to work flawlessly. What's the difference?

ibuksh: I dropped my S3 last weekend and the glass is now cracked but fortunately enough for me, the handset is still working. I took it to OMNI mobile repairs and they quoted me $380 saying it needs a full screen and glass replacement even though the screen is intact and its just the glass that needs replacing.

I have looked around and just the glass on trademe is just $40 and I have seen how to install it on youtube.

I would just like to know if anyone has installed the glass that he/she bought on trademe..?

And if yes then how is the useability of it... I mean touch sensitivity and swiping and all..

Would appreciate some feedback

I dropped my S3 in April while taking photos. I put in an insurance claim - had to pay the excess of $300, but otherwise cheaper than replacing the screen.

My understanding is that if that it is only the screen that is cracked, you can replace the glass. If the digitizer under the screen is damaged, replacing the glass only won't help.

Yup.. Thats what I tried to tell the people at OMNI but they said replacing just the glass was not an option and they HAVE TO replace the digitizer. And I am not interested in spending so much so I would most likely go for the just glass replacement option.

So again.. if anyone has done it, let me know your useability reviews after the glass replacement.

IntegerIsNumber: Send it for warranty. It is 2years if it is bought locally (Vodafone or Telecom). I rung Samsung about my frame cracked and button flushing in AMD the rep told me that I have two years warranty on all NZ model S3.

Oh that's positive news. I'm live not too far from the Samsung repair centre, so maybe I can take it to them directly. Will give them a call at some stage this week.

The i9300 does, the i9305 4G/DC-HSPA+ variant does not.
