Hard reset is to fully reset the phone back to nothing.
Another way of saying factory reset.

Slightly OT. My mother-in-law is getting rather sick of her Telecom (Ascend) Y300 and am looking at a replacement and the SGS3 seems reasonably priced. Is it still viable as a new fone for would the likes of the HTC1 mini be a better option for her?? The Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 is an outside runner..

The S3 is still a good phone and superior to the HTC mini in specs although the Mini will most likely get more updates but the screen size on the S3 is great for people my age.

Less than $300 phone.

If you are after price then it's a good buy but not up to the specs on the S3 plus Mon remove able battery and no external SD card.

If you don't care about the horse power and expansion then it is the best phone to buy.
It scores pretty high in benchmarks and almost the same as S3 in some area.

Thanx Guys,

I took her to the Telecom store in Bayfair, TG and she tried various models and settled for the Galaxy S4 payable over 24 months on to her fone account.. Pity no Telecom LTE in Tauranga yet to test with..

I'll look at he Moto G for the wife..

and you don't care about screen or camera size its is the best buy, hmm its actually not even close but it is cheap

well if you flash a custom Rom on the S3 it will be as well and there isn't a lot of differance in the Roms to the average user and if they are above average they can flash a custom rom ;)

I would not recommend flashing custom ROM for his mother lol. Though, it has a few up sides and a few down sides with custom Rom. For average user then stock ROM will be plentiful. But for power users then Root the damn thing and flash it with CynMod 11 (if you don't care about the video camera and a few crashes) or CynMod10 or others Aosp ROM. I'm using Omega v53 Stock ML2 based ROM at the moment. Still a few bugs here and there but I can deal with it until official ROM or CynMod11 ironed out its bugs.

OT: Moto G screen is just as sharp as the Galaxy S3 (MotoG probably sharper) but colour reproduction isn't saturate or accurate. Camera, yes, it is not the best out there lol. Performance wise, this phone is on the save level as the Galaxy S3. I would recommend people to buy this phone over the S3 any day because the software update speed and price. I personally wanting one for my daily use :)

lumberg: So I did the update to 4.3 on my 4g s3 and i am cursing the day i did it the battery has gone rapidly downhill since the update really thinking bout going back to the previous version anyone else having troubles with extreme battery drain ?

Not related to your battery issue but; do you have Knox installed with 4.3 on your I9305?

Or are you saying 4.4.2 for the GS4 instead of GS3? Sorry, I am very confused. Beside, GS3 is not GS4 in this regard.
