Anyone bought a a Vonino Speedstar S Android from the warehouse $249 ?
I am looking at a cheap(ish) android tablet that the grand kids can play some vids/youtube etc without them buggering up (dropping) the IPAD.

I see they are a brand that is sold in quite a few places and despite the fact I have never heard of them until today the specs actually look pretty good.

The battery says 3250mah but the website (http://www.vonino.co.nz/speedstar_s) says battery life of around 4 hours - Wonder if anyone that has one might have any comments.

why spend that much when you can get something like this for same specs and half the price

i have 2 Ainols that the kids use and have had no problems with them

macuser: iPad, iPad, iPad.

I would recommend a Windows 8 convertible tablet but then I figure it would actually just end in disaster.  1000 tool bars in IE and at least 5 'your trial has expired' pop ups on boot after a year with the folks.

which of course can't happen on a Windows RT tablet

Spec wise that actually doesn't look too bad. Similar specs to the HP Slate 7, but with a higher resolution display.

Could be a decent buy for the price, assuming the build quality is decent.

It reviews quite well. Seems to show a 3250mah battery here. Overseas they show 3500mah.
The hp seems to get pretty bad reviews unfortunately.
Maybe the warehouse will have a sale at labour weekend...

Well that was quick - they have vanished from the Warehouse website since yesterday.

The vonino people even have a .co.nz website and it appears the AU/NZ service centre is in NZ - though its probably just the distributors address by the look of it. Cant see anyone else that seems to sell them at the moment.

The Ainol product does look pretty similar - though much lower res screen - but that name - LOL!!!

I find myself as the de facto help desk for aged parents - one group firmly Win7 PC users, the other iMac and both of them struggle to do anything outside of the basics, so retraining often required. One thing that works for both is my iPad - it just seems they can follow the 'tap screen' and use the app concept.

Dad has gone to an Android handset for maps (drives a patient transfer ambulance) but otherwise is a basic user on that device - all have resisted any further advance in tech.

For a simple start point the iOS set up does appear to be 'easier' to catch onto quickly for most users and the gated App store gives them a safer access to application / solutions without having to teach them any further process.
