jeffnz: Some differences between Touch Wiz and GE
I suppose another advantage would be storage as the GE Rom has less bloatware in it and its considerable.

I thought so too when I tried the 4.3 Google edition. But the remaining space was still the same. I believe this is because the partitions for the OS and user storage are a set size?
Timmmay, I missed the Samsung camera, certain touchwiZ features like the downloaded button in the app drawer. Samsung was more customizable in settings,
Google edition is certainly nice though. It was a breath of fresh air from using 4.2.2 all the time

timmmay: Thanks Jeff, Yab. I guess my concern isn't so much doing an install, it's restoring my apps and data, and then rolling back to a stock ROM later if I want to. If that can be done easily and reliably (Nandroid and Titanium + Odin I think) then I'd probably play a little. I just really don't want to mess up my phone, which is an essential business tool.

timmmay: So would it be fair to say (and I could be totally wrong) Nandroid backsup and restores the whole partition, whereas Titanum does apps individually? In neither case the firmware or modem is backed up, correct?

timmmay: Ah, so no matter what I do I can always go back to where I am now with a Nandroid backup. That's great to know, and means I probably will play with a GE, Omega, or Echoe ROM over xmas.
timmmay:
I know some ROMs require you to upgrade the modem, so I didn't think custom ROMs included the modem. Why is there a modem in a smartphone anyway? I understand what a old style modem does, but not sure what the term means for smartphones.
