I've decided to dive in before the GST rule kicks in and buy one from Clove UK. Anyone had experience with them? how reliable are they? regarding band support, does the UK version support LTE Band 28?

Purchased many phones from Clove, never had any issues, including when I had to return a device that faulted (manufacturer issue). Can confirm that I get Band 28 on my Pixel 2, and the models on there at the moment indicate support.

I would wait at this point for the amazon black friday, should be end of november, the pixel 4xl will be 700/800 usd, still cheaper even with customs and the new gst rule

I'll see what happens. I tried going through Clove and even though they said they had it in stock on their website I later find out that isn't the case so in the end I cancelled the order. I think I'm going to stick with iPhone and avoid making an irresponsible impulse purchase that I'll probably regret later.

I got my Pixel 4 XL a couple of weeks ago. Bought it from JB HiFi in Aus and had AusFF ship it over to me. Figured it was worth it for a warranty I can use from NZ and I took the chance to throw in an official Pixel fabric case on my order.

I'm really happy with the phone. Battery life is actually fine on the XL at least. Screen is great, camera is great and I just don't think I can pass up the Pixel Android experience. The phone feels solidly built and everything about it is very slick, right down to the vibration motor which feels very 'Apple'.

And just to confirm, no Soli doesn't work in NZ. It's region blocked which is disappointing but I knew it was likely to be the case when buying the phone.

128gb? how much did you end up paying in total, did you have to pay customs cost?

you can bypass soli to work on any country, have you tried it?

you can get it locally in nz, but more expensive then buying through jbhifi aus

Tech news in UK and USA are predicting Black Friday deals. I'm thinking many will be tied to carrier discounts. Not looking closely. I'm mainly interested in it driving down the price of the previous model.

Hi all,

So two years ago I was here with everyone, trying to find a Pixel 2 XL. I bought a black 128GB XL for something like $1950 from Dick Smiths. After six months the speakers went all rattly and they didn't do anything to fix it when I shipped it back to Melbourne. So I have been keen for a new Pixel for a while, if only to enjoy phone calls and any sort of audio over 30% which doesn't sound like garbage.

So what to do? I wasn't going to buy from DSE again, come hell or high water. So I took the alternative track, thanks to my Pixel-owning cousin who lives in Melbourne. I might have been able to use YouShop but I didn't trust Google not to pull the "we don't ship to known freight forwarders" trick.

On launch day (yep, 16 October) I pre-ordered an orange 64GB XL, with a fabric case. Total cost at shipping time was NZ$1457. It accepted my NZ card and I only needed an Aussie address for delivery. Everything went smoothly with the case arriving before the phone, and then a little wait while my busy relatives had to pick up the phone from a depot as the courier didn't knock on the door and simply left a card (sounds just like NZ eh?).

Shipping to NZ cost NZ$27. It needed to be shipped via International Express mail, not courier, as AusPost don't send lithium batteries via courier.

Next came NZ Customs, which as usual was slightly painful as NZ Post and Customs have very stupid systems involving posted invoice letters which you can speed up if you push both agencies. Oddly enough, mine was further complicated as they classified my item as a commercial import due to the fact I was having it delivered to my office at a government department (insanity). The end result was I needed to supply the invoices from Google to prove the cost, and a screenshot of my credit card transaction to prove it was a personal purchase.

With that done, they gladly and quickly took a further $274 from me and released the item on the same day. It was then delivered overnight from AKL to WLG, which was nice!

So I now have my lovely new (and very, very bright) Orange 4 XL, along with the Sorta Smoky fabric case! Happy days.

I can report that the device is very nice. The display is good and the speakers are loud and clear, the camera is obviously very good and I have my little phone tripod ready to go for a rural wedding next weekend and some astro photography.

It is fast, smooth, and in my view worth the money given I love the aesthetic of the Pixel line with no sharp steel rails or blingy nonsense. Coming from a P2 I don't notice the forehead at all, and the other bezels are pleasingly small. The battery life on the XL is good, though my 2XL's battery was at 74% condition so was getting a bit dodgy!

I am a self-confessed fanboy but not afraid to point out bad things. Having said that, I also don't subscribe to the internet hoards who are permanently mad that it isn't essentially a Note 10 on steroids and also cost US$400. I genuinely believe that the Pixel is greater than the sum of its parts. The user experience is great and that more than makes up for not having every shiny bell and whistle available (SD855+, 4K60f, wide angle etc).

Given I have only had it since Thursday, I can't say i've really tested it out. But it is a substantial upgrade from a 2XL and feels genuinely good. Plus it's so orange that it's almost a coral pink-ish colour in some lights, which isn't for everyone but I absolutely love it haha. Photos of the colour don't do it justice.

Pixel and Pixel 2 speakers were not great compared to even $300 phones. Pixel 3 I have not tried. What is your opinion of the Px4 speakers to the working Px2 speakers?

Oh they're night and day different. My partner has an iPhone XR which has very nice speakers. the Pixel 4 is just as good, though a little less bassy and deep maybe.

I have seen a sale on B&H photo/video for black Friday and I'm wondering if the same sale will come to Amazon? Or should I just purchase it from B&H?

What can I expect in terms of costs - taxes, customs, etc?

Does the phone work on NZ carriers? Does motion sense work, as I've heard of countries such as India that do not allow it?

it should work here on all networks, motion sense doesn't work here without a work around, for customs cost use this https://www.customs.govt.nz/personal/duty-and-gst/whats-my-duty-estimator/

dont think B&H ships to new zealand so you would have to use youshop.

I would wait for amazon they should have it for sale as well, since the google store has a sale for it.

I'm waiting for Amazon's Black Friday sale also. I have a $100 credit with Amazon because that was the deal they had when the Pixel 4 was first announced but the colour orange was not available so I waited but they kept a credit for me. Hopefully they will match Google's deal of $200 off. That means the phone will be $300 off which is a pretty good deal.

I am tempted to get a 4XL but the truth is I have no reason to upgrade from the 3XL
