Thanks for posting those vids CdtDroid, Redux looks pretty good might give that one a go. I'm still running 2.2 that came on my phone but would be nice to get some extra options, interestingly those comments on low brightness are exactly what I'm looking for.. the dimmer the better :P
For me they run so bright i can easily see the screen so it doesn't bother me (got a samsung galaxy s), so the lower i can have it the longer the battery will last. The brightness options in froyo seemed pretty basic, would be nice to have auto brightness but make it favour lower brightness.

Does "wipe data/factory reset" remove the Rom and root and reverts back to stock?

I want to reload Redux rom scratch again to see if that fixes my WiFi issue. But I don't want to reroot it. I just want to fully wipe the ROM and reinstall it feresh.

I did a wipe of davlik and cache and reflashed Redux and that fixed my sound menu problem.

If I can't fix the WiFi then I will need to look for another ROM as 3g kills my battery.

full wipe means redux will stay there but just as it was after you flashed it. so no apps or data or anything. do a full wipe then reflash it. try oxygen if you have anymore issues :)

full wipe and reflash can often solve issues. so remember wipe data, cache, dalvik

Also... with any of the ROM's just make sure you go into WiFi settings/advanced/WiFi sleep policy, and set it to never

another recommendation is ADW Launcher EX well worth it. makes the whole feel of any 2.3 ROM faster

so redux is specifically for htc desire? i just noticed that when i googled for it. so some ROMs like cyanogen mod do roms for many phones but some are just for a specific phone?

looks like a great ROM, any idea what the best ROM for samsung galaxy s is thats similar to redux? clean fast stable good battery, they have the right mantra imo

Ok, so after successfully using Ubuntu to partition the SD (thanks for that tip!) How do you actually get Redux to use it?

You dont have to do anything A2SD ROM's already use the extra partition if you have done it right. To get EXTRA space download this .zip file:

Put it in the ROOT of your SD card and flash it from recovery. That will get you an extra 30 or 40mb by moving the dalvik cache to your SD card also...

Oh ok, I was under the impression Redux + partitioned sd allows you to move all Apps to sd? Even ones like Google maps.

Already done that part, will do again as I have since partitioned the sd properly.

I think I'll stop playing and see how it goes for a few days now. Might try that oxygen ROM in the weekend.
Really keen to sort the WiFi at work out. I wonder if Redux works WiFi differently and that's causing the issue.

It shouldnt but they use different stock kernels and stuff so that could make a difference. You could try flashing another kernel as well... might fix it.

Try this Manu 1.4 kernel to keep it simple... just flash it from recovery like the dalvik script. should give you even better battery life also.

EDIT: Make sure you only flash that on gingerbread ROM's :) Or read the post on it HERE
