Updated my Note 8 - also 2Degrees handset, mate of mine here at work has a Spark version it did not see the update. Looks like other Telco's are dragging their feet. Security Patch is March 1st 2018.

@DeepBlueSky Could well be approved by the Telco's but Samsung Korea has not pushed it out yet

Linux

I didn't think of that as an option possibly a staged rollout. Anyway phones working great no issues, and I can now try a dex pad.

Id be thinking nz carriers ahead of Samsung. Same thing happens in the US.

Its more than perfectly possible for Samsung or your carrier to do so, but in NZ, pffft, Volume would unlikely be a major concern to the 15 year old server sitting next to the receptionist slippers.

In the US its more of a concern because they can and have just flat our declined to roll out updates. (not specifically samsung). Im not a fan of Samsung industrial design, I wish they would have at least left the note 8 with a flat screen like the galaxy 7. but i really want them to stop this confusion with what a note is by putting it in the galaxy line. I want them to get back to calling it the Note 9, period. And start building Note software based off the working man/womans use case again. Thats what made the note great, productivity software. Now its a slap on top of bloatware/touchwiz.

Not only that but the phones physical industrial design. I want them to get away from slippery dual glass and curved edges which do nothing to enhance the note experience, if not degrade it. A solid metal back and GG5 front, 16:9 because its easier to use with external keyboard than 18.5:9 and at 5.5" is plenty big enough. We are getting passed the point where screen length makes ergonomic sense and screen ratio is more important imo for horizontal portrait real estate, its a debatable point, but let galaxy create 2 foot long phones and justify it not the note. bring the note back in line to being a white collar workers hammer. all the good stuff that made it great. no doubt it still has some of that, but its pretty hard not to feel its NOT the focus. even sales guys in stores say this to me and i just nod.

im tempted to buy a note 5 and slap the note 8 launcher on it.

either way I hope to end up with a note after a long period without one. awesome devices and shows how good samsung solutions architects and designers can be with the Note software.

I dont mean to say the rest is a dud, just feels its drifted into the Galaxy line and I feel it should be kept by the nature of being more a corporate or designers tool outside of mainstream line.

Hi all
I've done 3 factory reset on my note 8 and now lot happier but still few problems. When I disabled gmail (before factory resets)first time to try and get double notifications stopping on phone and watch, all works fine then when gmail does update back to double notifications did 2 more times so come to conclusion that this must be gmail app.
Then after factory reset first time did samsung cloud restore thinking this was to be done but after 2 hours found it backing up my sd card music to phone don't know why, next reset found to untick music for samsung cloud restore which was on sd card (Never backed music up to samsung cloud). Only took 10 mins this time and restored from smart switch as well 3rd time only smart switch no samsung cloud. Previously using smart swich on s7 edge,note5 and note7s all worked fine but this time settings not restored, home screen, and few other settings. Everytime reseting notice phone with pin no, now always encrypted
which is ok. Next alarm not working correctly message cant set up something to do with bixby and flipboard running but never set these up,not sure what happened there now seems ok. Tune in radio no way of closing(swipe away notification) just time to notify again later something about running apps in background so only way was to restart phone.Google assistant seems to be broken every reset worked ok then next day tried and google cant connect & phone also seems to be using more battery but with time maybe better.I'm still getting double notifications on gmail on watch, reset watch each phone reset, but did notice today got 2 simultaneous notifications plus one notification to tell me i had 2 notifications so ill just have to put up with this until google updates.
At the moment after updating to oreo feel like getting rid of phone as too many complications far better with nougat and wont be using smart switch again as just a waste of time now and samsung cloud not much better.

Any word on VF Oreo update? Seems the only version in the world without one.

Neither.  Was pre-ordered prior to actual release through PB Tech so was ex Samsung NZ

Edit: Oops.  Mistake on my part. Lost sight of fact that the thread is Note 8!  Mine is the standard Galaxy S8 phone, not the Note. Apologies.

Hi all
After googling found answer to get google assistant working where before google can't connect, was to enable notifications for google and now works perfectly.
Gmail app going berserk with notifications multiplying by itself squaring eg 7 emails 49 notifications 6 emails 36 notifications, on watch only double notifications.
After googling again somebody else had same problem with no result from google or forums so recommends resetting going back to previous version which i'm going to do unless somebody here knows of a solution.

thanks

Is there a way to stop the install of Android 9.0, as my note8 did a auto download and my phone keeps asking me to install it But I've been puting it off because of all the problems people have been having, so I don't want it.

This will be my first OS update since switching to Android.  In my iOS days I used to wait a while before installing major OS updates, to avoid the inevitable bugs that always surfaced in the first few days/weeks.  Has anyone here had any issues with Oreo on their Spark-sourced Note 8?  And if there are issues, how hard/easy is it to roll back to Nougat?
