I've given up waiting for Pie on my Note 9. I'll just stop using it until Pie is out I think. I'll pick up a cheap phone to use until then. SUCH A PAIN!

Just checking Aust vodafone update page and note 9 pie android 9 update was testing in progress for a few weeks then rolling out soon and now says testing scheduled so must have been some problem with update causing delay.

@ShinyChrome FYI Wi-Fi calling will stop working, Personally I would wait

2 Degrees WiFi calling works just fine on the Pie version of XSA. Why do you say it won't work?

Just fly to Europe, buy a note 9, update to pie, and profit while you wait for your NZ note 9 to update. So simple!

@ramboky It may work on this version XSA but if I downloaded a version off Sammobile say for VodaoneAU then Wi-Fi calling will stop working or if I put the Spark 9.0 (when pushed out) onto my handset Wi-Fi calling will not work

@Linux, sure but no one is suggesting using carrier specific firmware, that would be silly. XSA works fine with 2 Degrees WiFi calling, and fine with any other carrier here. It's a good option for those tired of waiting for New Zealand carriers to get their house in order.

Hi, question:

I just realized I don't have a "wifi calling" item on my Connections menu like the Australian XSA firmware does (from the pic on the previous page). I'm running the stock Spark firmware. I have a couple of dumb questions:

1. What's wifi calling do?

2. Will it work if the carrier doesn't support it?

3. I've flashed ROMs before (used to run custom roms on all my phones) but haven't bothered lately and am out of practice. Can you suggest a good source for step by step instructions for updating to the XSA rom? Is Odin still a thing?

Many thanks

Wifi calling means your voice calls and sms messages go through wifi (when available) which generally has better reception than cellular.  It also means your texts and calls are charged at domestic rates when on wifi overseas.  The carrier has to support it and last time I checked only 2 degrees supports it.

Can't speak for for the people that have actually done the upgrade, but if Samsung doesn't get their fecal matter together soon, I was planning on using this: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note9/SM-N960F/XSA/download/N960FXXU2CSA2/251540/

Confirming that's the one I used, guide on the right with Odin. Pretty straight forward instructions.

I used samsung smart switch to create a backup onto my SD card which I used to later restore from a fresh install. Your call.
