You most likely can't roll back to Nougat once you upgrade to Oreo without the aid of external software on your PC (namely Odin) and flashing your phone with the firmware you want.

I've flashed on phones prior to my note 8 without any problems but haven't done so with my Note 8 yet so can't say how easy or difficult it'd be.

As for bugs and whatnot, after updating my system, has been pretty solid, colours slightly more vivid, slightly more responsive,

Things that kind of annoy me is the persistent notification when somethings running in the background. The concept of it is good - to let us know if something is running without our knowledge but the execution of it, not being able to dismiss it for items you choose to (or at least as far as I can tell) is annoying.

Can't speak about the battery at the moment but it looks like it's similar with what i had on Nouget.

This will be my first OS update since switching to Android.  In my iOS days I used to wait a while before installing major OS updates, to avoid the inevitable bugs that always surfaced in the first few days/weeks.  Has anyone here had any issues with Oreo on their Spark-sourced Note 8?  And if there are issues, how hard/easy is it to roll back to Nougat?

@Lizard1977 Oreo has been out quite a while and better over 7.x and better battery life and better memory management

DeepBlueSky are you still happy with your update, as I don't think I can postpone the update indefinitely, as you have been using a while now your thoughts would be appreciated.

ihavenfi I was wondering about that, a real worry having to flash using 3rd party software applications with regards to the warranty and of course something going wrong and bricking the phone.

VNZ, TNZ, NZC

All have same update, no difference in modem or csc, so basically any one could have downloaded the rom manually and updated it using odin.

That is what i did. I had a spark note 8 and i downloaded the NZC (2 degrees) one and flashed using odin. KNox is not tripped as it is official firmware

Before I upgraded to Oreo I decided to have another look at 3rd party launchers.  I setup Apex, and found that it was actually pretty good, and had everything working well.  I then proceeded to upgrade to Oreo, and everything was fine to start with, but then sometime in the evening I stopped getting notification badges.  I can't recall if I changed some setting while I was tinkering around, but it seems no matter what I do I can't get those notification badges back.

I tried clearing cache from all the apps (Apex Launcher, Apex Notifier, all apps that I wanted notifications from), restarting the phone, toggling app badges off/on, uninstalling/reinstalling Apex/Notifier.  Even uninstalling Apex and going back to the default Samsung launcher didn't make a difference to start with.  I reverted again this morning and it now does seem to be showing notification badges in the default launcher (but not with Apex).  My googling efforts don't seem to show any different solutions - in fact, some people seem to be having problems with Oreo showing the badges, and suggest installing Apex to bring them back... /sigh

Can anyone suggest something to try?  I don't really want to reset the phone back to default settings if I can possibly avoid it.

I Don't use APEX I use Nova & have had 0 issues.

Try this:

Settings>Notifications

1. You'll see at the top the option of how you want it to show app icon badges.

2. Also check "all apps" & see if that fixes it.

Goodluck!

Thanks.  I did try enabling notifications for All Apps (kind of a nuclear option), but it didn't fix it.

I did consider switching to a different launcher, but I found I quite like Apex.  I've managed to achieve a similar effect with just the Samsung Experience launcher, but there are some useful touches missing which Apex offers.

I've also lodged a support request with Apex, and hope they may be able to suggest a fix.

Discovered another problem over the weekend.  Bluetooth connectivity to my car stereo has become extremely patchy.  It takes a long time to connect, and then disconnects randomly and often struggles to reconnect.  Previously, it had been reasonably (as much as bluetooth ever is) reliable, but this change is almost certainly down to the Oreo update.

I googled some solutions and have tried force stopping the Bluetooth function and clearing the cache, and resetting network settings (which was a pain because my Gear S3 then wouldn't reconnect, and I had to do a full rest of that to get it working again).  None of those things seemed to make any difference.

Anyone else having this problem, or have any ideas on how to fix it?

Lizard1977, my Note 8 had difficulty syncing to my car stereo via Bluetooth after the 8.0 update as well. Don't really care though since I'm now daily driving a p20 pro. Updates have been an issue for Samsung for as long as I remember unfortunately.

Installed this security update but still having the same Bluetooth issues. It may be my imagination but I think it is ever so slightly more stable playing back over Bluetooth, but still getting random disconnects and reconnects.

Where are you located? Why don't you get it tested?

Where did you purchase your Note8 from?

Hi Lizard,

No issues here with Bluetooth, I know you can do some funky stuff with the Bluetooth 5 on the Note 8.

The general rule is drop your connections device and phone and repair with the device I'm guessing reading you posts you have done this. Also have a look around the settings as this is Bluetooth 5 there maybe some differences.

Just Googled and it looks like there maybe an issue that requires an update I would jump onto the Samsung site and start a conversation with support to confirm.

Best on luck with this its a pain in this day and age as people are dependent on Bluetooth.

I chased up Samsung support about this issue, and they haven't got anything else to suggest on the software side, and have suggested I take it back to Spark, who will send it on to Telegistics for assessment.

They note that "possible charges may apply if the product is out of warranty [it's not] or if the technician finds no fault or if it is a non-manufacturing fault. In these cases, quote will be provided after inspection. If you accept the quote, repair will be carried out, otherwise, inspection charges will apply."

I guess I'm a little apprehensive about this for a couple of reasons.  Firstly, I'm a little skeptical about the technician finding a fault.  I'm pretty convinced it's a software issue, as it happened immediately after the Oreo update, so I doubt they will find it to be a hardware fault.  But it seems like these kinds of issues, being so intermittent, are easy to write off as "no fault" or being a non-manufacturing fault (whatever that is), and leaving me with a bill.  Secondly, being without a phone for any length of time is becoming less and less viable these days, so the thought of handing my phone over for inspection only to have them determine that there isn't a problem they an replicate, and billing me for the privilege, doesn't thrill me.

Has anyone else had any experience with Spark/Telegistics and dealing with a fault like this?  I might feel a little reassured if the prospects of a good outcome were higher.
