No One UI or February security update either. 2degrees do take a light touch with carrier customizations, which is definitely appreciated, but the other carriers are still awful.

That aside, my point is it's the carriers who are holding up the NZ release, not Samsung.

Why do you say it's the NZ carriers holding it up?

I bet it's not, I have seen first hand what goes on

I'm aware you used to work for Vodafone. It's a big company, lots of people have.

I'm saying it's the carriers because it's the carriers. I have firsthand knowledge of Vodafone's process and progress for this upgrade, and second hand knowledge of Spark's through a former colleague.

I call BS it's the carriers holding it up

The carriers will be waiting to test the update and testing takes about 5 business days

I have had 100s of meetings with the guys and ladies that got the builds directly from Samsung and use to get updates directly from them myself about what was happening I use to post these updates onto the VodafoneNZ community

Yes, you've passed on information given to you for customer support. That's not the same as being directly involved and that information is often sanitized for obvious reasons.

I don't want this to get personal, no one else cares where we work or what we've done, so let's just agree to disagree.

In the mean time we have some perfectly working options to upgrade to Android Pie which will mean we won't have to put up with delays next time.

Further to this it would not surprise me if Samsung has held back the update cause of the S10 launch coming up.

Sales people will say the S9 and note9 only have 8.0 and December Security patches if you buy the S10 you will get latest OS 9 and latest Security patch

Why would they hold up the release in New Zealand, but nowhere else? It makes zero sense when Samsung are saying the release for the Note 9 is imminent.

Carrier branded releases come out last for a reason and that reason isn't Samsung.

Ramboky, are you aware of the level of carrier branding and software additions to the Note 9 from Spark. I'm holding one here and it's _very_ light. I'm going to join with John on this and call BS on you here.

It's not the amount of work involved in adding customizations, is the time the whole internal process takes and how much the carriers drag their heels each step of the way.

Edit: To be fair, carriers aren't the sole reason for the delay by any means. My previous comments shouldn't have made out that they were entirely responsible.

I can tell you now carriers don't drag their heels I remember the carriers chasing Samsung many times so they could test the updates and ask Samsung to push out the update

I think this just highlights the fact that we really don't know what is holding them up. The carriers aren't saying anything or that it is Samsung's boat to row, and Samsung is somewhere between "soon" and "carrier testing". And because they have tied the security updates to the OneUI release, it makes it all the worse.

All we know is that a good portion of the rest of the world is getting either/or OneUI and security updates and we aren't. If either/both Samsung and the carriers were a little more transparent about the when and why, it wouldn't be as much of a problem; but since the only release guideline I can find is the notice in the Samsung Owner's app and that has changed multiple times now, it feels a little fly-by-night.

Samsung just need to set an expectation and stick to it. If there are actual issues delaying it, be transparent about it.

I've spent a couple of months tapping the 'Check for Updates' button and ended up just sideloading an Australian ROM using ODIN over the weekend.

Outside of the lack of Good Lock support it's a nice looking ROM. Really liking the OneUI that's been implemented.
