josephal: Trying to follow android nz guide to root my phone but when I go into download mode on the phone I need some help selecting the right option.

The options I get are
reboot system now
apply update from external storage  wipe data/ factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache

Thanks

Hey chap. That's recovery mode, not download mode. Download mode is volume down, home and power. then you'll get the little android with the spade.

Yes i'm following that guide. Oh thanks.. I got to the right menu now, but odin is not showing anything in ID:COM and message, fields are blank http://tinyurl.com/8dxdyz4

I tried turning usb debugging off and on. Will try installing kies.

rather nerve racking doing this to a $900 phone!!

Make sure you dont have Kies running when you are using Odin.

Yeps and check the task manager to make sure everything kies related is killed off.

Yes its rooted now. Take it I need to backup at this stage. Will have a read through info at xda. Unsure whether I should wait till the official jb rom comes out or go custom roms now.

com.sec.android.sCloudSync

been getting this FC'ing in the last 2 Omega builds. Doesn't seem to affect anything else though.

yes Omega is one of the best around and a lot of options . Now you are rooted and know how to backup try a couple of others as all you do if you don't like it is restore and you are fully back to where you were at backup. ICS is very stable but not much point going back if you already have JB.

try  here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674286 it has all the roms available and what update they are using, also guides to flashing etc.

CM10 and AOKP have some bugs that sammy roms don't so would advise waiting until official release before trying them but they are good to look at. Wanam Lite is very good as well but doesn't have all the customising Indie has in Omega but you can flash other themes as most dev themers trial his rom's.

Also try the new Siyah kernel for JB beta it is very good and I noticed a differance.

Out of the uk BTU jellybean leaked firmwares on sammobile what one would be for I9300XXALF2.

Can you easily get Google Wallet onto GSIII's I tried today but kept coming up with can't install after rooting and using market enabler.

I may be wrong here but think you would need to change your CSC to BTU or some USA CSC that uses wallet ad then market enabler. Remember that changing CSC completely wipes phone and SD card.

If you are going to those lengths best to flash a custom JB Rom as they are quite useable.
