TheUngeek: Sometimes google freaks me out.
Just logged into play store from pc in the first time in a loooong time.
Selected music, and there was a lsit of suggested music that was pretty spot on to what I'm in to.
I've never done anything with google music before!

Yeah, I know what you mean; it is uncanny!  I figure that they used my age, gender and country as entered when I set up an account to figure that out.  I also use Gmail, so that would be an additional source of profiling info.  Others will be spooked by the "big brother" aspects of this.  I weigh up the benefits compared to the risks and consider that what I am gaining by using the power and convenience of Gmail, outweighs any privacy concerns.  Each of us will perceive that equation differently of course.

I'm not worried about any privacy issues. So what if some google employee can read some of my stuff. I bet there are monitors in place and googles own internal big brother can see who is looking at who. Just like the police can and do, and the recent health file misuse.

Also, I'm not interesting enough to spy on! Then add to that the problems for google that will arise if they are discovered doing it!

TheUngeek: Hmmm for $15 I'd be near expecting a hard copy
No, I still don't 100% trust the cloud! Plus with our internet, having to redownload or stream things is a pain and sometimes not viable

Google allows you to download purchased music a couple of times from the Web app so that's a way to do DR. Can't do it from the phone though but it's pretty easy to transfer the downloaded music to your mobile device of course.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

I am curious how this new system is from a legal perspective. It went through my iTunes and "other music" and "matched" it where possible and then uploaded the other 300 songs. I didn't know that iTunes music license allowed you rights to upload it to other music providers etc? It didn't even ask me to provide any form of proof I actually owned it.

See I just avoid all this legal mumbo jumbo, no streaming, just plain Mp3 files from CD
