ok so just restored kitkat 4.4 and have gone from 5 gb free to 7.2gb. Understand about the partition but it also sems to deposit junk on internal SD as well

GE, Echoe, or other? How's 4.4 working for you? What's missing compared with a Samsung ROM? Any significant annoyances or dislikes?

Broodplank 4.4.2, I updated after I restored his older version, a plus with AOSP and CM is that the file sizes are a lot smaller .

Its a lot faster that Samsung but as said before lacks the little things like air gestures, smart stay etc, which i don't use much but like to have. Camera app is not as fancy, won't save automatically to ext SD card which is a nuisance. Keyboard isn't as good as the sammy one with numbers along the top.

The pull down menu isn't as good as what I am used to and trying to turn off sync and others items means you have to actually go into settings which aren't laid out as well as samsung.

Battery life seems to be getting better as well and no reboots since i fl;ashed it nearly 12 hours ago..

Be confident on the backup and restore and give it a go as you can go back to exactly the same place you were as has been said.

I don't think the modem changes from memory

Interesting, thanks. Any chance you can do a screenshot of those settings? I pull down the top menu and turn wifi and mobile data on and off many times a day, so they're essential to me. Camera not saving to external SD is annoying, can you just get a better camera app? I use swype keyboard anyway.

I don't use smart stay or air gestures, other than waving my hand over the phone to get the time. I can live with not having that if it means a faster phone.

actually not sure how to do a screen print on AOSP? have to check up later, excuse video but its the same virtually as AOSP anyway, the pull down is anyway

Can't really do youtube at work. Are there wifi, mobile data, and airplane mode toggles easily accessible? They're the ones I use most often.

Though I may get tasker out again, work out if I can have it turn data on when I'm at work and start a program that needs it, then off again afterward. I know I got it to turn data, location service, and GPS on when I started maps.

brightness, settings, wifi, mobile data, battery, airplane mode, bluetooth, location and alarm so you should be fine.

As said you can restore back as it only takes a few minutes although backup can take a while, 15 minutes for me last night

I have always loved CM ROMs and ran it on my previous devices. I had to stop running it on my S3 because the camera driver was a bit dodgy and kept crashing. It's a really slick ROM except for that (rather important for me) issue. I especially love being able to access the camera quickly from the lock screen... when it didn't crash that is...

Yep, I'll have a play. The only reason not to is the time, have plenty of that I think. I used to have to download all the apps again, which can take some time and bandwidth, but I'll just restore from titanium so no great problem.

Hi, I'm running CM11 (4.4.2 nightlys) as a daily rom and it's pretty dam good, very stable and can recommend it, I came from the Gummy Rom but found the battary drain on it to great, CM is a lot better, although stilkl not great, about 5 hours max.....

I don't miss the Samsung Touchwiz stuff (apart from the smart cover bits, but there are 3rd party options for it, although not as good!)

its very straight forward to flash, root, TWRP, and the flash from TWRP, (after doing a full backup of the stock rom (4.2.2) from TRWP).

I purshased the SNAP camera (wasn't aware they are an NZ compnay until I did) and it beats the stock camera hands down... ( and alwasy you to save to the external SD card.)

You get 5 hours battery on CM11 on the S4???!!! I get 2-3 days on the Samsung ROM! My phone was charged last night, it's on 78% now. I do keep wifi and 4G turned off mostly, and only use them for maybe 15 minutes so far today.

I'm using CWM recovery, 6.0.3.2. I thought you flashed ROMs from Odin, not while in the recovery? I'd read instructions before I did it of course.

Thanks for the Snap camera tip, will have a look :)
