jamesyb0i: Here's an experience -

Dropping the nexus one, from chest height onto concrete pavement while trying to jump touch a neon sign... =_=. Well now I've got a scratch on the body and its no longer new! Luckily its only cosmetic damage I guess. .

Do you think maybe that's why they included the soft padded slip case?????  Doh!

Now this button does what? whoops!

lchiu7: I hold it like a microphone - that also helps with the noise cancelling microphone on the back of the phone. And while I haven't had a lot of experience with GPS devices (the last one I used was a Tom Tom in the US) they didn't speak street names. But who can read street signs anyway - I would prefer to know when to turn and in what direction.

Hmm, true. What do you think of the sound volume in the car? With the speaker being on the back I guess you have to place it screen-down unless you have a holder for it.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

Get a 3.5-3.5mm jack or one of those tape deck connectors, both a dirt cheap and solve the issue of being reliant on the speaker. If that isn't an option I usually find my phone louder with the speaker facing down, providing its placed on a hard surface.

With the new law you really should get a car holder anyways though. I got a universal one with adjustable side arms from Trademe for like $11 or something, great value for money since the adjusting arms mean that basically any handset can be held firmly without running into troubles with cable connections or side-button placement.

I was given one of these things you plug in to your cigar lighter that broadcasts music over a radio frequency which your car can tune into and play. I can plug my phone straight into it with a 1.5mm-3.5mm jack and now I have 16GB of music in my car :) the signal quality sucks if I use an extension cable so I can't put my phone in the car dock and connect it to the sound system at the same time :(

I've used an FM transmitter in the past, they're pretty awful. Can't recommend getting a direct connection method highly enough...

+1 for direct connection. I used a transmitter for trips to Hamilton a few times - I must have passed 10 cars on the way that also had transmitters because I kept picking up other people's music, regardless of the frequency I used (mind you it was busy).  Sound quality was not great either.

Well this nexus is my first touch screen phone. Now don't have a go at me, but I do not bit my nails, and they are reasonably long (5mm white showing). Well I had to cut the nail on my stylus finger right back to get any sort of accuracy with the portrait keypad. How the hell do females manage with their claws?

Note to self: design and patent capacitance touch screen clip/stick on finger nails (with android logo). or has someone done that already?

Driving with Co Pilot quite a bit. Display and maps I like, but voice direction is a bit minimal, say turn left 50m before turn. Not like friends navman which give more frequent voice direction and will say on SH1 in 5km take exit 433 and name of road, rather than take exit in 5km.

My camera pictures are very pink in low light, It is may main complaint with the phone, is patch download able yet?

Battery life is what I expect and have no problem with.

Touch screen and buttons (beside my nail) I had no real issues with, other than brightness not being enough in bright sunlight. Any tips re brightness? (and not pull shirt over head).

I love google maps and the associated apps, and how contacts inter acts with this and other elements.

Now this button does what? whoops!

I spent a weekend using Copilot in Auckland. I agree with the observations. I think it tells you to turn too late. As for saying the street names, my only other experience with GPS devices is Tom Tom and the one I used (I have to admit it was in the US) didn't say street names so this wasn't a problem with me.

Plus it seemed to provide the wrong directions when heading out to the airport. When on the SH20(?) when you should veer right on the motorway, it says to keep left. I didn't follow that of course.

[edit]

I found an option to indicate how far from an intersection to provide the turn warning and changed it to 100m. I think it's better now.

Also I couldn't find a road near the airport but discovered I had to know that the road was  in city Mangere South, not Auckland or Manukau City. That's annoying since if you really need a GPS you won't necessarily know what city in the greater Auckland area it's in.

I seem to read a posting from Google they have identified this problem and can fix it with a software patch though they didn't state a timetable. Possibly a major patch to fix all the other problems the phone has.

Well even though I haven't dropped my N1 as another GZ member has (!), just for fun I purchased a soft case for my N1 from ebay.  Total cost was US$5.99 including shipping so it's not a major purchase.  There are many on ebay now and this is just one of the many. Should arrive in about a week.
