I saw a unit which was given to a Telecom salesperson by the Motorola Rep. Definitely not a Droid 2.

JohnnoW:

Milestone - a phone a year old and at end-of-life - seems an odd choice for a "new technology" network service provider.

Just odd.

And even more worrying (and the other reason I went to the Nexus One) the MileStone and Droid 1 do not meet hardware spec for Android 3, which is fast approaching...

But then again, August 5 sounds about right for the release date for the Droid 2 - surely Telecom wouldn't be hanging out and getting the latest and greatest???   Now *that* might cause me to move on it :).
J

The Droid and Droid 2 are CDMA phones....so I doubt we'll see them here.

Someone on Trademe was selling an HTC EVO 4G.....which is a(n awesome) CDMA phone. That was *really* weird as Telecom are turning off the "3G" CDMA EVDO network at the end of October 2010 - barely 3 months away...and the entire CDMA network in 2012.

You can't use an Evo on Telecom anyway due to the ESN whitelist.

In a nutshell, when each phone gets its Telepermit, its ESN (unique identifier) is added to a list of "allowed" devices. No Telepermit = can't be used on Telecom's CDMA network.

Hi :). Why are you choosing the milestone over the other devices out there? Nexus, Desire, Galaxy S?

Is it because of the physical keyboard, because its on telecom? Why?

Having a ahrd time deciding which android to get so like to hear peoples opinions for why they choose one device over another.

Hey, yeah no worries. Nexus didn't really do it for me, and the Desire is really nice but friends are getting less than 2 days battery life with average usage which just gets frustrating (I suspect the amazingly huge screen takes a lot of juice) and no use for taking away for a weekend. Physical keyboard is a big factor for me, so yes that was a big vote for the Milestone. Sounds like there's going to be a good offer from Telecom for its launch as well. So I'll check it out in person to see what it's like first - it's just my current front-runner.  Another one I'm considering (like you!) is the Galaxy but I'd bet that won't be here for another few months (by which time Windows Phone 7 is out and the whole ballpark shifts again...!).

I see. Well I would jump at the milestone however its hardware specs are just abit lower than the other options. Example 800mhz compared to 1ghz. Ive read android 3.0 minimum requirements mean you need 1.0ghz - so that would mean the milestone wont be able to get android 3.0

I dont really want to get a phone that doesnt get updated as much as others. I mean it looks nice and everything, just a few things here and there that dont work for me. But everybody is different :)

Yep, thanks.  As I say, it's just top of my list at the moment, just looking forward to trying it out really!  Galaxy and Lightning are the others in my top 3, so Milestone is just first one that I get to check out.

It would be very unlikely that Telecom would allow any new fones on the CDMA network apart from internal staff to try out..

Emm... The un-cracked Google Nav is still not available. If it is still not available tomorrow, it probably means the turn-by-turn thing will be Moto's own MotoNav app, I hope someone can post the MotoNav map data on the SD Card somewhere to share.
