ZollyMonsta:

If you need a small app that's free, let me know and I'll email it to an address you can access via the M001 and then you can just download it via the browser (coz the Gmail app won't download non-image/audio attachments).

I've gone back to the Eken software.. 1.7.4 for now.   Is there a better browser than comes with this load?
(particuarly allowing bookmarks).  Also email client which does pop3 access?

Sounds like a plan, since android market is broken.. thanks. :)

You can happily install and run Opera Mini v5.1. You may also want to try the Dolphin Browser. It's a very nice browser and for a long time was better than the default.

I like the default browser, though.

I like the look of the WITS A81 tablet

http://www.shanzai.com/index.php?option%3Dcom_content%26task%3Dview%26id%3D1360%26Itemid%3D76
http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/market-mayhem/33-tablet-talk/1412-video-review-part-2-taking-a-look-at-android-21-on-the-wits-a81-7-usd-200-tablet

< $200 USD / Android 2.1 / Good Optional add on GPS chip / ??Capactive screen??

I like it because it comes with cradle for your car and if you added gps it might be a good car gps + car mp3 player + tablet for at home.

and the Ramos W7

http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/bandit-gadgets/10-mids/1093-ramos-w7-hit-the-market-priced-at-usd-146

USD $150 - Android 1.5 / Rockchip CPU / 8gb / Optional 3G module / 4.8" Capacitive screen

Update on my android tablet from DealExtreme yesterday:
The status of the order has changed from "waiting on supplier" to "Order Received - in stock", so that is looking positive. :)

kind regards Andrew TD

Hi all,

Received my Eken M001 on Tuesday from Dealextreme. Over all it took just over 2 weeks from ordering to arrival.

After an initial play I updated to the 1.7.4 firmware that speed up the M001 and fixed the minor problems such as the youtube app. I also calibrated the M001 with a stylus as seems the easiest thing to type with over my chubby fingers ;).

Only problem so far is the wifi range is a a bit sketchy round home and the amount of heat this beast can churn out when used solidly

Over all im pleased with my purchase and can't wait to find more great apps so enjoy my new toy

blackdroid.net seem to have a reasonable number of android apps for download.

Some look pirated "SPB-TV" is a streaming Tv app that's US$9.95, but blackdroid seem to have the full version for free.

....but many of the best free apps are there, too...so not all bad.

Downloader beware.

There's also www.androidfreeware.org which has some apps for download. Including some of the popular ones like the Facebook app (which I downloaded tonight).

I found another app also which allows shoutcast playback... it's called 'tunewiki' It also supports last.fm :)

Anyone know of a place that locally sells a case suitable for the Eken?

I bought a cheap vinyl case on TradeMe for $18.95.  It does the job.

This auction appears to have a cloth bag: 305123103

Bugger - my order's status is now showing "Processing - Awaiting stock"

 Can't say I wasn't warned!.

I'm in no real rush though, so will keep waiting for it.

That app is also on the android freeware app site too.. Saw it there yesterday.

I'm still trying to find a decent dedicated twitter app (like the facebook app).  Currently using the mobile version of twitters website.

Have noted recently that I cannot play youtube clips via the YouTube app either... not sure what's going on there.

I use Seesmic v1.4. It's one of the best for Twitter. I also have Twidroid Pro. I like that one a lot, too.

As for YouTube, it is broken in the v1.7.2 firmware. You have to upgrade to the v1.7.4 official firmware. If you're on Slatedroid v1.3, then the author left out a crucial file and once you add it, the YouTube works perfectly. It's on the slatedroid forum (which is down right now - server troubles). I may have it on my tablet somewhere if you're desperate. On ECOTOX v1.1.1 YouTube works in normal mode only....no HD. But the only firmware YouTube is *completely* broken is the stock v1.7.2. The stock v1.7.4 firmware is *much* better.

I bought the aPad iRobot, should arrive tomorrow, the Red LED edition which can be rooted, $205NZ incl shipping :) 7", 4GB internal storage(MicroSDHC will add extra of course).  Should apparently play most videos, it advertises at 720p, but I fully doubt it will.  The rockchips are powerful, but the standard Rom which it comes with seems to slow it down.  Came with free Silicone case, cover and a few other gifts, just hope it's an AU adapter....if not, my Samsung bluetooth headset one will work, same specs and plug it seems.

Will post update in a new thread when it arrives, could even be today....on a fast plane from China!

Just have to fly back from Auckland and pick it up :)

I have moved across the ditch.  Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

A question for you guys that have done the 1.7.4 update.
I have the update saved to a SD card ready to go, but are hesitant as I have heard of a few cases where it hasent worked. There have also been a couple of occations when the device hasent recognised my card as well so that is another worry. I guess I'll have to decide weather to take that risk.
That aside, with the update installed, does it have the same applications as the 1.7.2 version.
I have managed to loose the default music player & was hoping it would be re-instated with the update.
It seems to be quite a big file so I am assuming it is a complete operating system.
