julianz: Also, I was seeing very high battery usage after the update but a complete battery-out reboot seems to have fixed that up nicely.

drbob: Hi, another update on the Android 2.2 update failure:
I just spoke to Mobicity. Apparently several other users have also reported that their recently-purchased HTC A8181 Desires are entering this reboot/error message cycle on update to Android 2.2.
Looks like the over-the-air Android 2,2 update is not compatible with the ROM that was shipped with these devices (perhaps the ROM is the wrong version or wrong region? - mine was sent from Hong Kong).
I liked the device for the brief period it worked, but this is not endearing me to the Android platform...
kiwitrc: I wonder if your phones have been debranded for Mobicity hence the issue?

That was my thought. But the phone shipped directly from Hong Kong, and the Mobicity guy said it was straight from the factory.
If it has been debranded somewhere along the line, it looks like using a goldcard during the update might solve the problem, but I don't have one, and don't want to go through this rigmorole every time I update Android.
