New update out: Security patch level: 1 August 2019. Size 144.14 MB
Version number: can't be arsed... :)
Damn son, that must be a new record.
Funnily enough its looking like the small battery size bump and the new process node has made quite an impact in the Note 10+.
Mine doesn't feel like it has lost much, although I charge it at least a once a day since it sits on a wireless charge on my desk when not in use, so hard to tell. I feel like I can easily get a 1.5 days worth of average usage out of it over the weekend, but starts plummeting with higher SOT. The only real decrease I have noticed coincides with buying a Galaxy watch, so to be expected with blue-tooth on all the time.
Its starting to look like some Note 9s batteries are losing life faster than others. I'm guessing you have eliminated the usual suspects, an app that hasn't gone to sleep etc. I also have my screen set to 1080p, because I can't really notice a difference to be frank.
I gotta say the battery life on my Note 9 (which I got on launch day) is still awesome. No battery anxiety at all, even when it drops down to 25% I know it will still be good for many hours on average use.
Look forward to the S11 - might ditch the S-pen for an easier to hold phone.
Thanks for the replies. It is strange that when the new phones are coming out is when the updates for the N9 start coming in early!
As for the battery problems, it's a little strange. I tend to agree with Shiny that it seems some of the batteries are degrading faster than others. I've done all the investigations to find any problem apps, and am now starting to do stuff like reducing the screen res, to make the battery life more manageable. Nonetheless, no question that it's gone down noticeably since the phone was new - without any major change in usage on my part.
That said, I think I'll keep this for a while, then maybe look at a change, either in vendor or maybe platform (iPhone). It's about time for that...

Accubattery is worth installing. It measures the battery charge and discharge rate and then over a number of cycles it estimates the remaining battery capacity. It's a better measure for how well the battery is holding up than how long it lasts through the day.
Any kind of smart watch definitely impacts your battery life. As does running multiple system level add blockers like I do. Apps try and connect to the tracking servers and when they can't they retry which results in wakelocks and bad battery life. The google apps are the worse, so much so that I have to whitelist google play services and google play music in order to not have it rety every min while I am not using the phone. I suspect google do this deliberately given that they are all about the tracking.
I am happy with the battery on my Note 9 and it was the main reason I changed from the S8+. Having said that I still want more!
Hi all, I'm looking to replace my now-dead S7 Edge with a 2nd-hand Note 9 from Trade Me.
Two questions for anyone still subbed to this thread and still running a Note 9:
1) What sort of battery life are you getting from your Note 9 these days; and
2) Is anyone using a third-party charger instead of the Samsung brick?
Cheers

I am still happy with mine, but I am probably not a good data point. Most days I hardly ever let it below 50%, and work days it sits on-and-off the wireless charger on my desk. It only really gets a work out over the weekend, at worst getting about 24 hours with average SOT before it gets low enough (<40%) that I will charge it. It definitely took a hit with getting a galaxy watch though.
In the last 18 hours, I have gone from 100% to 50% with 3.5h SOT for whatever that is worth....
Had my Note 9 since it was first released in NZ. I get anywhere between 55% to 93% charge at end of 24hr period, depending on use. Next to no use it will still be in the nineties (that is with wifi and location enabled but not Bluetooth). I also have my screen on the maximum resolution (FHD+ 2220x1080) and no power saving stuff checked except I don't have the screen always on thing enabled & edge lighting is off. I have to use the phone quite a bit (and I do mean quite a bit - a mixture of calls, games and surfing) for it to drop into the fifties. So battery life is excellent.
Re charging I only ever use wireless. I have a charger that came with the Note 9 but I wouldn't describe it as a "brick".
That is actually a good point about the resolution. I set mine on 1080p awhile ago and forgot about it. Set it back to 1440p, didn't notice a difference in clarity, but animations were a little bit less fluid so set it back to 1080p. I also use dark everything everywhere, including a r/amoledbackgrounds special for that 0.001% screen power less haha. No always on display either, but I do use lift-to-wake.
Another thing I have noticed is when using the Samsung wall charger, I can leave it on that bad-boy for an hour and it's still ice cold. On the wireless charger, understandably it gets a bit warm.
I don't know how I manage such good battery life to be honest. I have a TON of apps installed and nothing set to sleep when not in use, two different antimalware (Sophos & Malwarebytes Premium), and sometimes will use phone for hours at a time. I was still on the original battery of my Note 4 when I switched to the Note 9. I had the Note 4 since it was released in 2014.
Well it looks like I jinxed myself with my above comments about amazing battery life. What I wrote above about still having a 90% ish charge after 24hrs & minimal use, has dropped to about 65-70% charge after 24hrs with minimal use. I suspect a recent app update has caused it (as no new apps, just updates), but I just have to work out which app. I think battery deterioration would be more gradual than such a big decrease in life overnight.
I guess I spoke too soon about the updates... NZ is so far behind, we don't even feature on the latest firmwares list anymore
Annnndddd September update is here... spoke too soon... again.
I don't think you spoke too soon Shinychrome. It is mid October and we are only getting Sept 1st update now. Other parts of the world have got the October 1st patch through (within last week). We are definitely behind.
