eracode: I was at JB Queen St, Auck, when they opened at 9.00 am. They had five, I bought their first one. $1,049 pushed down from $1,099 label on the box. I might have got it a bit cheaper if I had walked around town but I was getting sick of all the uncertainty so just bought it. I though it was an OK price.

Have just taken it out of the box and learning how to use it. Next trick is to get all my stuff transferred over from my S2 which I will do at home tonight.

Thanks for the heads-up!  Got one on hold, picking it up at lunchtime... I don't think I'm going to be very productive at work this afternoon :)

Another farcical handset launch, should we be surprised?
Im gonna pop down to Sylvia Park and hope that at least one of the stores there will have it. Should be in luck as there is a JB, NL, & VF store in that place, so there should be at least one One, one would hope.

What frustrates me is that Telecom would've known about the delay days or even a week ahead and they decide to announce the delay on launch day.

For those picking up devices today and planning on unlocking your bootloader to root the device, Don't do it. As someone found out this morning after picking up their shiny new One.

From MoDaCo:

Is your HTC One arriving tomorrow? Are you planning to unlock the bootloader? Beware!

If you've ever unlocked a bootloader on a device before, you'll know that it wipes the data partition. Not normally a problem as long as you're aware of it. On the HTC One however, there are a number of applications (Calculator, Flashlight, Ringtone Trimmer and Sound Recorder) that are actually not in the main system partition, but are instead installed after a factory reset from a preload directory that lives in... the data partition!

Unfortunately, HTC haven't taken this preload directory into account in the bootloader unlock process - it gets wiped out and in turn those four system applications are gone... permanently!

Another potentially even more serious side effect is that because the OTA files check the integrity of existing applications, future OTAs won't apply if you've completed the unlock. The only way back from this situation is going to be a RUU (when one becomes available) - which will wipe your device again.

I've raised this issue with HTC and they're looking at it with the highest priority, but until such time as we have a resolution (or indeed just a backup of those 4 APKs?) then it's probably wise to hold off on the unlock.

There are dozens of valid reasons they might delay on the day.

And that would be???????
Not very professional just telling the public on the launch date is it>.......

They should know that there is high demand for this phone world wide and customer are waiting to get their hands on the handset with the pre-orders they might have.

Just unprofessional and useless...

Software bugs! Always good for putting a wrecking ball to any launch plans.

Just ask Wheedle.

Dingbatt: I have just read Brad's first Telecomtech review of the One. Sounds promising but I am massively disappointed by the '3 dot menu' issue that blighted the One X last year has re-emerged on the One. Unless there is a way of toggling the hardware button use, as was introduced by firmware update on the HOX?
I must confess, this menu was one of my pet peeves on the HOX when I first got it.

+1
I am on the S3 at the mo, wanted to get the S4 but its really the S3.5 to me, so the HTC one is next on the list, but if that silly black bar with three dots is there instead of a dedicated menu button that would just annoy me, am I correct in saying it is taking up screen real estate that the app would other wise be using ?

I do like the sound of front stereo speakers, so as soon as one is instore at telecom I look forward to having a play.
Hope all that per ordered get your devices soon!

Or a hardware fault, perhaps with a charger or something, something missing from the box, which wasn't noticed earlier.

Telecom tweeted this morning to say they are NOT releasing it today, but it will be soon.

Yes it does. It only appears on apps that don't have the overflow button i.e Facebook. For most apps it isn't an issue.

The speakers are amazingly good.

Isn't that a manufacture issue with HTC rather than telecom, Vodafone doesn't have a problem launching today... And the reason behind that is?????
