Kopkiwi: If Samsung go the cheap plastic construction again, I won't be getting it. Have put up with it for a year now because it's been the best on the market but with Sony and HTC releasing great phones recently and the Motorola Google X hopefully living up to the rumors I won't be buying the crap build of Samsung if it isn't improved.

My big problem with these more substantial phones is: what happens if you drop them onto a hard surface? The good thing about a plastic chassis is that it will deform slightly and take a lot of the impact. This is force that isn't being passed on to the more fragile components, e.g.the screen.

Given the number of people that I know personally who have had to replace cracked glass on their iPhones, I can say for sure that having a "solid, well-built" phone is not always a good thing. Compare that with my plastic S2, which has been dropped from waist height on its front corner onto concrete, and only has a mark on the case to show for it.

It's certainly possible that some of these other phones have good drop resistance. I'm certainly not in a position to find out. The one thing I do know is that I do not want to have to buy a case for my new phone. If I've just bought a sleek new phone the last thing I want to do is to bulk it out with a case (which is most likely ugly to boot).

NZtechfreak: Looks like 2600mA battery confirmed too.

I note the camera module footprint and bump are quite large, hoping that means a credible increase in sensor size.

I also note all the backgrounds in settings are white, ? no AMOLED. That could be a regional variation though, they've done that before.

I suspect you may be right, yields may not be up to requirements for global launch on the new panels. I also suspect we are likely to see SoC regional variants, again due to yields on the Exynos 5 Octa if this is indeed used.

I think its possible that it won't have an AMOLED, however all of their flagship Galaxy devices in the last 3 (or is it 4) years have had AMOLED. I do wish they came out with an amazing IPS display though..

In terms of the battery, do you think 2600mAh will be enough?

Hard to say at this point, so far both the 1080p 5-inch screened phones I've tried have disappointed, but they're both had (slightly) smaller capacities and run on Snapdragons. I'd be tentatively optimistic providing the Octa brings the same kind of power-savings to the fray that last years Exynos did.

I think the PowerVR SGX544 is quite power efficient also so that bodes well

jeffnz: I agree i think the quality is right up there and can't see how anyone can say its below Motorola but each to their own.

I don't like the colours or the glossy back but never bought it for how well it looks, besides I have it in a case like most folks so don't see it as a problem.

As an aside I wouldn't exactly say HTC build quality works that well since they can't even get battery life sorted.

And build quality has what to do with battery life? (which yes, HTC are god awful with)

These look pretty legit. I wouldn't be surprised if that was it, though I am a little sad as I don't love it too much!

WEll that's a bit of a let down. Was hoping for something fresh.

IMO the best feeling phone in the hand, most comfortable and probably the best looking was the Galaxy Nexus

I only just upgraded from an S2 to the S3, the only one thing that it struggles with is 'Real Racing 3' which is graphically intense, yet side by side they both stutter at the same rate, so I don't think the S4 will make it run any smoother - probably was not optimised properly in the first place. I wonder what segment of the market the S4 is aimed at - the gamer or bragging rights.
