I see you have a different device. Mine is EVA, yours is VIE.

Just checked for updates, and it still lists B130 as the latest. (It's on Spark, btw)

I was recently loaned a P9, it seems like a pretty big jump from the old S4. Things open four times faster, battery seems to last a lot longer (though being at home I'm not using it much), and things have generally come on.

My S4 has been rooted for years, so I've had good control of everything, full control of the file system, ability to automate with tasker, etc. I'd rather not root the P9 as I want to get over the air updates. I know I can unroot, but I don't really want to mess with it.

A question: how do you write to or delete things from the external SD card in Android 6.0? I can read from it but I can't write or do anything to it. I want to write with BitTorrent Sync and Root Browser. I don't want to have to format the card as it has a fair bit of stuff on it. This is probably a generic Android question, not P9 specific.

Well, it turns out you don't bother with the external SD card with the P9. It's not worth the bother. A few apps can use it, most can't, you just have to use internal storage.

Notifications is another thing - they don't work reliably for Google Calendar or GTasks. Searching around there are many, many people complaing about this problem, and no known solution. Someone said they talked to a Huawei engineer and they will only fix with Android 7. There are a multitude of settings that are meant to help, like these:

 - settings > Apps > Advanced > Ignore optimisations -> choose apps

 - phone manager -> system optimisation (paintbrush) -> settings (gear icon top right) -> memory cleanup whitelist (though I turned automatic cleanup entirely)

 - settings -> apps -> (app) -> notifications (turn all on)

 - settings -> advanced -> battery manager -> protected apps (add them all). While in there turn the phone into performance mode, you lose about 5 minutes of runtime and it might help

 - settings -> advanced -> battery manager -> power usage firewall (check it)

Though even with all that notifications aren't reliable. I'm about ready to start more drastic actions, like rooting or upgrading to the beta Android 7.0 firmware that Huawei released, in the hope it might be a bit better. I think the problem is the EMUI skin Huawei use.

I have the mate 9 which has eumi 5 and Android 7.
Notifications are better than what you describe. But that only happened
in the latest update for eumi.

I do hear the Android 7 version is better. I may go to the beta when I get time, but that's a risk. The official update shouldn't be too far away, it's released in one county and there's a public beta in the UK.

I somehow got GTasks notifications to work reasonably reliably. Google Calendar almost never worked, the built in calendar notifications sometimes work, but ACalendar notifications work perfectly.

Not particularly impressed with the Huawei software. Hardware is pretty great, fast, good battery life. Hopefully EMUI v5 is better.

Hey guys,

Just picked up a P9 today. Anyone have any ideas of estimations as to when Vodafone will make available the official Nougat update?

Ta.

Same question, with Spark. I read that it rolled out in November in The Philippines.

Nova Launcher has killed the gastly looking 'dumb' icons for now and given me an app draw. Has to be the best Android investment I've ever made (Nova Launcher Prime).

I contacted Huawei this week, 3 days ago they received an email informing the customer services team that the rollout should be complete by 10th March

Understanding this is UK but it might line up with us as well.

Sorry for the double post.

The P9 has one of the most beautiful displays I've ever used (and I'm coming from the LG G3's crisp 1440p display). But what really upsets me is Huawei decides to force a dim filter on whatever you set as a wallpaper on the Home Screen (it does it for the Lock Screen too but I'm OK with this otherwise the clock would be hard to see). I've tried multiple different wallpaper apps to try and fix this and the only app I've found that has been able to override it is Muzei, which I could only stand 5 minutes of as it slightly zooms in on all my 'custom' wallpapers and then left aligns them.

I believe the dim filter is used due to the navigation bar having no black background anymore which helps show the white nav-bar icons. I would much rather a black background so my wallpapers aren't dimmed.

Has anyone managed to find a way around this? I'm hoping this is something that is remedied in the upcoming Nougat/EMUI 5 release.

For anyone following:

Hi ignishin

Thanks for your email

Regarding your query at this stage we are still waiting for a sign off date from our terminals team and waiting for confirmation from Huawei on when this will be available.

As there are news around that the Huawei P10 will be released sometime soon, I dont believe that they will release the Android Nougat (7.0) anytime before the release of the P10.

Hope this helps

Kind regards

Vodafone Support

Seems a little conflicting considering Huawei have already released the official Nougat 7.0 / EMUI 5.0 update, just waiting on carriers to put their stamp of approval on it.
