You guys have definitely convinced me to go with the 7 plus for the finance committee's new phone.

I have got mine updated with July patch Thursday evening.

Thinking of buying a Nokia 6.1 because of Android One but the NZ listings are confusing.

• Is it just the Nokia 6.1 that has Android One, or does the Nokia 6 as well?
• The NZ listings for the Nokia 6.1 say "Android 8.1 (Oreo)". Do I have to buy an overseas model to get Android One or is it just a flavour of the standard Android version?

Last year's model - the Nokia 6 - does not have Android One. This year's model - the 6.1, AKA "Nokia 6 2018" - does have Android One.

Android One is Google's vanilla flavour of Android with minimal manufacturer customisations (i.e. maybe a custom camera app) plus a certain expectation around the update cycle and security patches. Goes through the same version numbers and the like as Android on any other phone, just faster. Consider it a replacement for the Nexus programme.

Except Nokia (yes I know it's not the original Nokia) have dropped the ball and we are not getting the promised monthly updates. I managed to get the June patch in early July by factory resetting without a SIM card and using a VPN to the US.

It's hard plastic, I like a case that is rubbery so if I drop my mobile it has less chance of breaking. August 8 system update for my Nokia 5 came through today.  148 mb & required a restart no issues. I am really starting to like the regularity of the monthly updates.

Same on my wife's 7 Plus as well.. Still on July 01 security update.
