cool!  Make sure to share the news!

Interestingly when I went into Telecom on Queen St (Auckland) there latest 'Discover' magazine (which is their 'buyers guide' has the Milestone ALL over it - on the cover, in the smartphone section, in the risk free section, on the '$0 up front section', and even the back page!

But there is NOTHING about pricing - all other mobiles are listed with 'mobile only' priced, but not the Milestone.  And even though the staff confirmed it will be available tomorrow, they knew nothing about pricing.

Oh, and it does say 'car kit' in the catelogue too.

Yep, it apparently comes with a windshield mount and power adaptor for car mounting included - nice sweetener.

I am at the announcement of Milestone and HSPA+ happening right now in Auckland. It should be in stores today.

All,

I just got off the phone to one of the Telecom stores, and the release has been delayed again due to some other problem found yesterday.  Apparently stock is in the stores, but strangely the guy I spoke to said the other bits (I guess he meant the car kit) is not yet in stock, and may not be until next week.

This is beginning to look more and more like an Apple/Vodafone release!

July - Here is the Milestone on Telecom!!!
Late July - Well, not really, there is a problem and we have to fix it
Aug - Its all fixed and will be on sale from the 5th!!
5th Aug - Well, not really, there is a problem and we have to fix it

This is a REAL shame. I was looking forward to this.

But the guy did state there are specials on plans, but wouldn't give details until the device is 'really' official.

I also got confirmation earlier this morning from our Connect contact that it could be a couple of weeks - but she has a "beta" Wink that I can have a play with if necessary.

first impressions... Got it this morning at the Telecom event, inserted a SIM card (disclosure: Telecom is providing journalists with a one month account) and started it.

Very easy to start using it. The build is solid. Screen is really nice, without feeling big like the Sony Ericsson.

It's running Android 2.1. There's a Corporate Email application (not sure this is standard on Android). When you start email it will ask if you want POP/IMAP or Exchange.

Entered my Exchange detail and it got all my email, folders, including option for ActiveSync. However I can't find a way to add a signature - will keep looking.

It asks if you want to sync contacts, and it does sync directly to the phone's own contact DB. Bliss, unlike those old 1.x handsets.

It comes with Facebook, and it will give you the option to sync your Facebook friends to your contacts as well, just the avatars, or none.

The Motorola maps application requires activation, and a PC to complete this step. Since I was at the airport this will be done later. Also it's a demo only valid for 60 days, after which you must purchase a licence.

Google Maps, Marketplace, etc work as intended.

Really fast, nice responsive touchscreen. The keyboard might need a bit of "training" but since I have been using a different model, this is natural.

So far so good. I have decided to use this on a daily basis replacing my LG Windows Phone for now. The LG GW620 Android is going back to the box obviously.
