ZollyMonsta: ...

Thats what mine did.. and 2 days later went to 'waiting for stock'. :)

Anyway... :)  ... ?

Bugger - my order's status is now showing "Processing - Awaiting stock"

 Can't say I wasn't warned!.

I'm in no real rush though, so will keep waiting for it.

Some of the Chinese sites serve Chinese people first. A bit like that tea place in Birkenhead, upstairs, opposite Bakers delight, that lets white folks sit there for an hour while they busily serve chinese customers at light-speed. You're supposed to take the hint......and leave.

We're not used to that, so we tend to not understand what's going on when it happens...and we just get crap service - eventually - for no reason obvious to us.

But having your goods repeatedly "re-directed" to another customer may be the same thing happening online-style.

rocky289: A question for you guys that have done the 1.7.4 update.
I have the update saved to a SD card ready to go, but are hesitant as I have heard of a few cases where it hasent worked. There have also been a couple of occations when the device hasent recognised my card as well so that is another worry. I guess I'll have to decide weather to take that risk.
That aside, with the update installed, does it have the same applications as the 1.7.2 version.
I have managed to loose the default music player & was hoping it would be re-instated with the update.
It seems to be quite a big file so I am assuming it is a complete operating system.

I've flip-flopped between a few different loads of software with no issues.  Now residing on 1.7.4 which I'll likely remain on for the time being.  Yes, I'd be a bit hesitant too if it's having issues reading the SD card.  Do you have another you can test/try?

Which is why I only ever goto chinese places with my chinese friend :)

I see DX has the Eken tablets, tempted to buy one just to mess around with. Maybe keep in the car or something.

XBMC has released an android remote looks amazing, I'm wondering if the eken might be up to the task because if it is it would be the best media remote for <$300 that you can buy.

http://xbmc.org/freezy3k/2010/07/13/official-xbmc-remote-for-android/

check out the gallery for the app, looks amazing. it requires min android 1.5

Does it require sending the signal via IR, or wirelessly via network? :) I guess via the network.. in which case it should work... :) Pity there isnt one for Windows Media Centre. :)

My main SD is Adata. Class 6. 8GB. This is the one that baulks accationally.
I have another FujiFilm 1GB card with the update on it.

Regarding my question about the music player?

Try looking for the music player under the 'app market'.  I think all those on the standard image can be found there (I found the youtube app there, when I lost that).

After reading all the comment here I've ordered one from DealExtreme.

I assume that once there is a tracking # that it's actually shipped?
Reason I ask is that it sounded (in earlier posts) that there were delays previously with getting them shipped.

Nah, there's no tracking if you used the free shipping.

It's worth remembering the M001 and devices with the same VIA MW8505 processor do roughly 300MHz. I have seen mine play an MP4 video file with continuous sound, but only snatches of the video about a minute apart and maybe 5 seconds long. They just can't keep up. MP4 requires too much processing power.....

For the price, these devices offer a great set of features and functions and work very much like netbooks. But for the $156 I paid for mine, I keep in mind the compromises made to keep the price that low.

I expect I'll buy a much better Android tablet toward the end of the year or early next year. But for getting my feet wet, the M001 has been awesome.

Actually, there is tracking because it's sent via registered post.
I can see that it's been shipped from Hong Kong and from there I'll be able to check via the NZ Post tracking system (particularly when it hits Auckland). And from my experience, THAT's where the delays will be.

I really do wish that NZ Post would stop using carrier pigeons to send things to the South Island 8-).
Seriously, it's often faster to send things to the US than it is between Christchurch & Auckland!

Looking forward to playing with the unit when I get back from the US.

Regarding video playback.
I have used the KoyoteSoft converter.
Chose the preset PSP setting for the conversion.
Seems to work fine, although there is a slight speech mismatch.
