I sussed out how to get it to sync with iTunes, have to get HTC Sync 3.0, which is only available for the Wildfire at the moment but I got it from rapidshare and it works all good. I'll find the link if anyone's keen.

I got a A8181 from PI on the shore and have the upgrade to 2.2. Someone at work who bought their there a few weeks ago had to just download HTC sync and the default ROM or something and synced to that, then they could update to 2.2 . Something about the phone having a re-branded rom to start with or something.

Did the re-flash and sync at work and too us maybe a hour all up.

More than happy to upload the files for you if you need them

Does that version of HTC Sync still do the periodic busy wait rubbish? E.g. does the mouse pointer flick to the busy pointer every 30 seconds while htc sync is installed?

It was a widely criticized fault of previous versions. (windows 7 x64 amoungst others).

I'm using HTC Sync v.2.0.33 with Win 7 x64 and haven't had those problems. HTC say they are rolling out v.3.0 to other devices soon so hopefully it won't be long before its available for HTC Desire.

Kinda glad the A8183 doesnt have froyo officially yet. It turns out rooting the updates from HTC arent easy, Unrevoked has posted a few comments on their twitter that they havent had much progress.

Going to sit on 2.1 for a while while the dust settles and custom roms mature a little.

Interesting.

Still, A LOT of people do have the problem - the driver for the sync system periodically tests to see if a phone is attached and when it does so it spawns a process that busy-waits the system for a second or so every 30 seconds. It's very irritating.

mine is from the shore PI as well.
The box has German on it, and start up screen has T-Mobile animation, so I guess its originally from German and T-Mobile.

When you say 're-flash' do you mean root?

hi ryan1019, have you got this work? I just found this little guide: http://www.geekword.net/manually-install-froyo-htc-desire/ it seems the same file with the one you mentioned. But I'm still scared about doing it, coz I don't know what would happen if any error occur?

just thought i'd update ya, false alarm guys ..gps is working just fine ..in fact faster than before imo.

chrome to phone is worth the price of admission on it's on ..freaking awesome, send a page ... web browser opens, hightlight a number on a page ... your phone will open it's dialer with he number ready,  google maps ..phone opens it's phone app.  hight light txt ... phone puts in cache ready to paste it where ever you like.  brilliant.

the slightly new text interface is better, and performance around the phone is just more solid.

do it.

Hi guys

Lurked for a while and then in my ignorance posted in the wrong place.

Link to my problem with syncing to the SD card on the Desire here: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=97&topicid=65686&page_no=1#363924

Any suggestions what Froyo may be doing to interfere with the syncing would be much appreciated.

Cheers

There are ways to circumvent the new Hboot that came with the Froyo OTA update. Namely, flashing a re-packaged update.zip that has the Hboot update files omitted :)

The guys at Modaco and xda were urging people who wanted to keep their root on their Desires by holding out for a few days while they extract the Hboot files and prepare their subsequent custom ROMs.

I'm glad I waited. Rooted Froyo goodness :D

Hey RevoWution,

Just noticing your tag line...

Do you still need to run Apps2SD+ now that you are running Froyo?

I'm using Apps2SD+ instead of the native Froyo Apps2SD :)

The Froyo one is rubbish. Too much hassle having to move things to SD card manually. Not to mention that a lot of apps don't support the move to SD card yet (I know there is a fix for that, but I'd rather the app installed straight onto the SD card as I installed it).

Widgets won't work if you've moved them to the SD card with Froyo's Apps2SD and you've got the phone plugged in as a USB disk drive as well.
