lokhor: I think with TouchWiz you can just drag the apps off and put new ones in if you have the application menu open. If you want to install Voodoo and have Root make sure you use the SuperOneClick root first and also make sure you don't have clockworkmod recovery installed or any other lag fixes. also backup all of your applications just in case.

Thanks. Three-day weekend ahead so will have time to have a play.

I'm trying ADW Launcher for today. Launcher Pro can be problematic on any phone. It used to occasionally fall over in a heap on the Nexus, but recovered immediately and carried on. If anything....it takes longer to die on the Galaxy S...and slows down first instead of just hitting the wall at 100KpH and going splat.

I was sending pics at lunch around via ADW and *so far* so good....no issues with performance or stability.

I seem to have completely sorted my " lag" problem by doing two things:

1. Dumped Launcher Pro and switched to ADW Launcher.
2. Dumped Swype in favour of SlideIt.

Its now a totally different phone. Amazing.

For anyone who still can't connect to kies, there is a known problem with long filename extensions, used by camera and cacheing these files will cause samsung galaxy to not be seen by kies.

I plugged my phone into Kies to do a firmware upgrade and it gave me this message;

Model name: GT-I9000
Current version: PDA:JF5 / PHONE:JF4 / CSC:OZS
This device's version cannot be updated

Then I tried the reghack that was linked on page 2? and it says;
Model name: GT-I9000
Current version: PDA:JF3 / PHONE: JF3 / CSC: SWC
Latest version: PDA: JM2 / PHONE: JM1 / CSC: JM1

I have no idea what any of this means, and the XDA forum mentions something about a JP6, which I don't seem to have?? I don't know.

Is it safe to do the reghack and update my phone to 2.2?? I don't want to brick it.

More info;
Firmware version 2.1-update1
Baseband version I9000ZSJF4
Kernal version: 2.6.29, seokchanm2l.kim@SE-S506 #2   (what does this mean?)
Build number: ECLAIR

Strange, I have never had problems with LauncherPro and the GS (Plus version, although that shouldn't really make any difference), love it to bits.

I wouldn't reg hack to update, I'd use Odin, and only if I have active 3 button recovery available.

JM1 is Eclair not Froyo and I think is the latest version being offered to UK/Europe at the moment. If you want to upgrade, you'll need to reghack to a region that is offering Froyo (if there is one at the moment). As NZtechfreak says, its easier to use Odin (if download mode is available).
