MartinGZ: An OTA update came through yesterday. Now 10h dated 25 Aug 2015, up from 10f. H815T Aus version of the phone.
The only change I've noticed is that Stagefright is now fully patched according to Zimperium Stagefright Detector. Version 10f did not pass the test (2 fails). It's nice to see LG & Google finally getting a bit more serious about security although it's a shame only newer devices get this treatment.
Now I assume that as this only took a few weeks to come through, LG has dropped the need to have local network approval/testing? If so, that seems a good thing to me as it gets rid of delays in the updates.
kiwitrc: These are on special on Ebay currently for US$399 for the international version, ie LTE bands 3 and 28 for NZ. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LG-G4-H815-32GB-Factory-Unlocked-4G-LTE-Hexa-Core-Smartphone-GSM/271904758997?rmvSB=true&lgeo=1&rmvSB=true

Not sure why anyone would buy that given it's cheaper to get it from einfotech

Thanks
First the good news.
A month or two ago my G4 (H815T) phone finally succumbed to the bootloop problem, but was fixed with a new motherboard within a week. Thanks LG & Harvey Norman.
So, onto the bad news - Security Updates.
In March 2016 the phone did make the very welcome move from Android 5 to 6 Marshmallow, but the last security update was 1/1/2016 – the one that came with Marshmallow.
One of the reasons I decided on this phone was that LG were promising regular security updates, and indeed I find out they produce them monthly as stated on this LGE website, with the latest being July 2017.
I emailed the LG support desk from their website. LG replied within a day saying it had been “escalated to the Product Expert”. The following day a message was left on my answer phone and that evening LG support phoned again to discuss the problem. You just cannot fault the response so far – absolutely top notch.
However, that is as far as we got. The support person stated that LG Australia has not received the LG G4 updates, and then there was the issue of provider approval etc etc. Pointing out the updates exist on LG’s own website did not make difference. I also pointed out that in the USA the G4 is now moving to Android 7, but was told that was a different country.
To me it seems that LG Australia just do not give a toss about updating their products which is a shame as they are good phones. LG Australia also seem to be quite happy to ignore the head office statements that LG phones will be updated. Rather than changing to the LG G6/7 in another year, it means I will now look to a different manufacturer. LG you have lost my custom. Security IS important.
What really makes me grumpy was that I decided to be a good boy - buy from main stream retailer, buy a manufacturer that promised support, the phone was supported by 2 Degrees, buy a recognised brand. Hell, the phone is still listed on the LG NZ website. Next time I’m going to be BAD! Or go to iOS – shudder.

Thought about installing a custom ROM?
I'm still using an LG G3 with Fulmics (Android 6).

Thought about installing a custom ROM?
As far as I'm aware there is only one variant of the G4 that has an unlocked boot loader and that is the European version H815. My H815T (Aust/NZ) is locked so cannot be rooted, but if anyone knows otherwise please let me know.
Since my last post I note that the G4 was first released in April 2015 (GSM Arena), so in NZ, had updates supported for a whole 9 months. Gee, thanks guys.
