WolfChop:

For Samsung's Trade In program, why is it that iPhones are worth so much and in some instances, more than Galaxy phones? I have an iPhone 6S Plus and Samsung is offering $650 for it plus $300 boost, bringing the total to $950. I see a lot of listings on TradeMe of the same phone for around $550, and there doesn't even seem to be that much interest over them. Is this just a really generous trade in deal, or am I missing something here? If the deal is this good, then I might consider plonking down cash for a new Note 9.

My Note 8 is worth $809 apparently which (I think) includes the $300 boost.

Edit - that is less than an s8+...!

My mistake. The total offer for my iPhone 6S Plus is $650. Samsung has already included the $300 boost in the final price, if I'm reading their chart correctly.

You are reading it correctly. $650 includes the $300 boost.

DANOFDANGER: Had a play around with the note 9 today. Certainly is nice. Even though it is slightly wider, it feels nicer in the hand. Yhis is due to the more rounded edges which you can notice easily from the sides, rather than face on. Also the screen is noticeably bigger, not huge but enough to notice. The bottom bezel is slighly slimmer than the note 8 and the bezel difference is assymetric, meaning the bottom bezel is slightly smaller than the top. The fingerprint position is defo better. And the display is more accurate and brighter. The stereo speakers are very good, i always had problems watching youtube and having to cup my hand to direct the sound towards me. Now the note 9 is very clear and forward. The S-Pen software is all very much the same, no changes at all. This was one of the things i wanted to know if had changed.

Its for sure faster, one thing my note 8 struggled with is the microsoft applications, note 9 was pretty flawless with little lag. Overall very nice and refined product from samsung.

If anyone has any questions fire away, i think i went over most the major components.

The note 8 came with a basic clear case in the box (That I wasn't expecting) and I am curious if the 9 will have one as well - anyone seen the contents of a NEW ZEALAND box?  I presume the differences in dimension are just enough to to allow an 8 case to fit.

Cheers - N

Chuckle... Somehow my typing got out of sync with my thinking... I meant to say I presume the cases wouldn't fit due to the differences :-)

Haha i thought that may have been the case. Speaking of cases, i dont think i recall seeing cases included with overseas products. But who knows. I liked the included case but lacked an all around covering. So i bought one just like it except this one had covering all the way around.

tripp:

Samsung nz can also not confirm if nz will have dual sims (as shown on their website with the little *selected markets) or single

If tradition is anything to go by, Samsung NZ does not offer dual SIM variant.

For me the only reason to buy the 512GB is the extra 2GB memory. Hard to know if I would benefit, though I spend a lot of my day on my phone.

The note 8 starts throwing out applications when it reaches 70% capacity, which is around 3.7GB. (Usable ram is only 5.22GB). And the OS usage is around 3gb. Meaning your only getting a solid 700mb of application usable memory. Where as with the 8gb, there would be significantly more. This for myself would benefit me greatly.

The extra internal memory for myself, allows faster access of files as it runs a much quicker memory system. So thats the added bonus there.

Interested to see how many apps the 9 will keep open with the 8gb of ram.
I shared a vid last year of the note 8 keeping 20 odd apps running

Yea it really depends on the size of the apps. Like for example the samsung browser is between 200mb to 1.2gb depending on usage. And youtube is around 200mb. Common apps like spark, snapchat, messenger, dialer, messages, are pretty small in ram usage. But its around the 15 average app mark. But with larger apps such as a clogged browser and games, they reduce the number of apps it can keep open.

Il be sure to do a comparison when i get my 8gb/512.

What's the best pre-order offer for those wanting to buy outright? PB looks good but worried about their delivery not bring prompt.

I'll take a few days (likely no extra days really) delay to get hundreds of dollars more benefit...

No-one else looks even close to PBtechs offer if you have a use for the headphones.
