@jonathan18 thanks for that, although my wife does not have a Nokia 7 her Huawei peace of waste material has absolutely garbage bluetooth. I will get her to check teh Huawei insane power settings to see if the problem is similar. Her phone is so close to becoming a wheel chock for the SUV.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

jonathan18:

My wife's 7 Plus has apparently had dodgy Bluetooth for quite some time - she'd thought it was that my headphones I'd lent her were dodgy, but when a new pair I bought her yesterday (amazing that I was able to buy a pair of not too bad headphones with active noise cancellation for $114!) reproduced the same problem, disconnecting every few seconds then reconnecting after a little while, I dug a bit deeper.

The issue was the phone defaults to optimising the 'Bluetooth' system app, so placing that on the 'do not optimise' list immediately solved the problem (found the solution here). What a daft default, given the consequences; thought I'd post it here in case others with this model (and maybe other Nokias?) had similar issues with Bluetooth.

I also checked to see if there was a new security update but, nah, the latest available for her phone (standard Spark issue) via the phone update is Jul 18; not quite the speedy process I'd expected!

My wife's 7 Plus is still on the July  patch though she hasn't had any issues with BT  mind you she only uses it when in one of our cars.

Regards,

@MikeB4 - until recently my wife and I both had Huawei phones, and one of the main reasons we both changed phones was we couldn't cope any more with the cr@ppy Bluetooth! I've promised myself never to buy another Huawei due to these and many other problems.

jaseyr: Does anyone know if/when the Nokia 6.1 Plus is coming to NZ?

I'd be interested in any updates on this that anyone may hear regarding release of the Nokia 6.1 Plus.

My Nexus 5X fell victim to the bootloop fault yesterday so I'm in the market for something similar to the vanilla android on the Nexus devices.  The Android One phones would seem to fit the bill nicely.  I'm no hurry, I've pressed my trusty old Nexus 5 back into service until I can find a suitable long-term replacement at the right price.  On the plus side, my 5X still had two weeks of its manufacturer's warranty left and Warehouse Stationary were happy to take it back.  A win for buying locally rather than from one of the parallel importers.

The September security patch for 6.1 is available now, and I didn't have to resort to any SIM/VPN shenanigans to get it.

i wonder if the Nokia 7 plus is waiting for the Pie update which is meant to be happening soon but has been delayed due to  a couple of tricky platform specific certification bugs

I sadly have cracked the screen on my Nokia 6.1, Does anyone know where I can get this repaired? Ideally with an authentic screen.

I bought it from Noel Leeming in CHCH.

Telegistics is the exclusive repair agent for Spark, and Nokia is exclusively distributed by Spark, so they will be your go-to.

Whoever you use, make sure it isn't serviceplus. That's who Noel Leeming used to "fix" my Nokia 6, and all those fools did in the week they had the phone was attach two stickers and scuff the finish on the back. I had to fix it myself in the end.

TA-1062 is dual SIM variant for Taiwan/HK if I'm correct. From my personal experience I had troubles updating Nokia 6 (Dual-SIM US variant) using NZ carrier SIM. I resorted to using an overseas SIM for getting updates.

I have a spark / ta-1055 Nokia 7 plus and only have the July patches for 8.1, have tried checking for updates using a 2degrees Sim as well. Anyone managed to get OTA updates past July?

Pull out SIM, install VPN with US as the end point, clear all the caches, then do a update check - it should force it to think it is located in the US and thus download the latest update available.
