otabz: Hey guys, how much total did you guys pay to order it from Amazon? If i order one do i need to pay custom duties/gst etc once shipment reaches in NZ? And do i need to use a shipping forwarder?

Have a look at snip I posted (https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=97&topicid=273097&page_no=4#2546729).

About $656 which includes GST and expedited shipping. No need to use a freight forwarder and no hassles with customs at all.

Amazon have streamlined the entire process so well and their exchange rate is awesome.

Edit: Sorry $682 with expedited shipping.

Awesome, yes i read previous threads just wanted to make sure. Thanks a lot. So does this apply to any phone shipped directly to NZ through Amazon?

So mine was due on the 14th, but was showing as "delayed at customs" for a few days - and then cleared it and arrived today.

So far I'm a fan, it's smaller and lighter than my OnePlus but has more screen real estate. Transfer of most data went really easy but it left all my messages (SMS and WhatsApp) behind which were the main two I cared about.

FYI I expected the cable to be full size USB to USB-C, bit it's USB-C at both ends.
I don't understand how people complain about the finger print sensor - it's super easy to use. I will miss the alert slider but no real drama there.

No. Some phones ship direct, some will only ship within the USA and you need a reshipper.

Mine will cost about $686 shipped with expedited shipping, but they only charge you when it's shipping. There's about a 4-8 week delay between orders and shipping at the moment, due to demand and stock levels I assume.

You could check the specifications. I do recall seeing a review that said it does get quite dim. Android Authority in the past 72 hours. I'll edit this post if I can find it.

Worth getting expedited shipping from Amazon if you want it relatively quickly - I wasn't in too much of a hurry so selected standard shipping and two weeks later it looks like it is still in Arizona thanks to "Operational/Capacity Related" delay - ie DPD aren't finding many planes available.

From here: "The Pixel 4a’s display gets dim enough for nighttime use, and it’s contrasty without appearing unnatural."

Agree - DHL / UPS are operating almost as normal, probably because they have their own planes. We got stuff from the UK in less than a week on DHL, and my last Amazon package was about the same.

My 4a is forecast to arrive with expedited shipping around 30th Sept, it's come back a bit since the original estimate of mid Oct. They haven't billed me or sent it yet though.

I wouldn't worry about that too much.

I had an order from Amazon that went into this state; I checked one morning while I was at work - and it was still in Arizona according to tracking (had travelled from Phoenix, Arizona to San Bernardino, California before issues in Arizona). But when I got home it was sitting at my front door. When I checked tracking, it was still in Arizona (it updated 3 days later to say it was delivered but with no information between Arizona and delivered)

Still was looking around about ordering from Australia, and lot of review articles seem to suggest the phone would be out on the 10th September in Australia, and yet a bunch of online stores are saying things like "will deliver mid-October" or that they release on the 15th October.

I thought perhaps the AU Google Store would be a good option since it's not like it says "pre-order" on it. But nope, looking at the delivery options (besides being Australia-only), it specifically says Delivery: 28 Oct – 2 Nov.

Maybe I should've just got it from Amazon, h-hahah. The case I bought has arrived now, and I ordered cheap and slow for it~.

I would go through Amazon for the sake of simplicity. Paying the GST up front when ordering will help it get through Customs faster too.

Why is NZ not getting stock? So frustrating Aus always gets phones we dont, or gets them much earlier.

Are there any coupons for Amazon?

How much does youshop charge to redirect to NZ? Because its $299 unlocked at BestBuy. That was the normal Sprint price (unlocked but would need deactivating from sprint) but for short term the no plan unlocked model is $299

Out of interest it seems that there is only one version of the 4A in terms of frequency coverage (LTE). So it doesn't matter if you buy it from Australia or Amazon in terms of coverage?

My 4XL from Amazon has different frequencies than the Global version according to GSMArema

Global

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 20, 25, 26, 28, 32, 38, 39, 40, 41, 66, 71 - Global

USA

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, 38, 39, 40, 41, 46, 48, 66, 71 - USA

and I haven't worked out if the differences affect my coverage.

The 4A appears to only have one set of frequencies.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 20, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, 38, 39, 40, 41, 66, 71

Could be wrong but I think you'll find it's $299 if you activate it when you buy it (with a given network), but to buy unlocked it's $349 even at bestbuy.

Earlier in the thread a few NZ vendors explained they prefer not to stock Pixel devices at the moment due to the difficulty of returns when there's an issue.
