Quick question...wasn't the Desire suppose to have a feature where the phone is silent when you put it face down? I'm sure I read that somewhere but can't for the life of me get it to work, or see settings for it.

Then again...I may have that completely wrong...

It doesn't work if you have your phone facing down to begin with.

The feature works when you receive a call, and you want to mute the ringer, you flip your phone face down, then your ringtone will be muted :)

D'oh! I accidently clicked the button before composing a reply - now I can't edit/delete it!

Anyway, thanks for the answer - I'm learning new things every day with this phone so far :o)

Excuse me for being a little off topic, cause this is a generic Android question..
I'm loving my new Desire... now it's time to pick a Remote Desktop app for it.

Can you guys recommend one?  I see there are a few in the Market Place, but the ones that sound good cost, so i can't just try them out.
I'm happy to pay up to US$20 for a decent one that works well, and is fast.  Need something that I know is secure and reliable, as I may need to rely on it to do anything urgent for work when out and about.
Just wondering if anyone has tried any of the RDP clients that are available in Market, and can tell me what they think is best.

Cheers,
Tim

You can just try them out and ask for refund within 24hours if they've not to your liking...

Ah, cool.  Thanks for the advice.
Is that standard Android Market terms of service, or is it to the discretion of the vendor?
Cheers,

I believe that is a standard term of service, but possibly there is an element of vendor discretion.

PhonemyPC appeared to be a popular choice over at Android forums...

I received my HTC Desire today from Expert Infotech here in New Zealand. Total cost including post and 2% credit card charge was $1011. It arrived just when they said it would.

Loving it! My last PDA was an okta Touch (HTC Vouge).

Anyway, for the benefit of Slingshot users (and those using google), here are the settings for Internet and MMS:

APN1

Name Slingshot Internet
apn www.slingshot.net.nz
Proxy -
port -
username -
password -
server -
mmsc null
mms proxy -
mms port -
mcc - 530
mnc - 01
apn type - default

APN 2

Name Slingshot MMS
apn wap.slingshot.net.nz
proxy -
port -
username -
password -
server -
mmsc http://slingshot.nzmms.net.nz/pxtsend
mms proxy 172.030.038.3
mms port 8080
mcc 530
mnc 01
apn type mms

Thank you to those who posted vodafone settings earlier, allowing me to decode what slingshot wanted. Hope it helps someone. I can confirm the MMS part works; i have not tried internet through them (I intend to use wifi for that exclusively).

BTW: this Desire came from Singapore apparently... And it DOES have the 4 gigabyte microSD card in it, despite what someone at expert infotech told someone here.

cool stuff man, yeh my current phone is a okta touch too ..my desire can't get here soon enough, hopefully tomorrow.

um does any1 else have the NextG version or am i the 1st?    some XT settings for net and mms would be handy ..where do i look?

i just realised my main email is a Gmail account, i have facebook, flicker ..and twitter ....  htc android is perfect as it pools each of those ... has motivated me to sort my contacts in gmail so i can just sync with that. will be weird having all of those at my finger tips ..

how much data do you guys use each month?  i'm trying to figure out what a good bit of web browsing, and social ntworking will run me MB wise each month ... dont intend to go hopping on youtube or anything..

i'm still on telecom's old network paying $25/mth for it's pittiful 20megs ... same cash would get me 250+ on xt right? ...weak but still better.

The Desire does not work on Telecom XT. The Frequencies are all wrong. Vodafone/slingshot/2 degrees ONLY. Unless I am talking about the wrong phone...
