Pretty pissed at WHS right now, they screwed me around all day probably in an attempt to stop me from cancelling my order, also it didn't seem like any of their staff had any idea what was going on. This is how my galaxy s3 story went:

Pre ordered and placed a deposit down a week back, they told me I was the first person to do so and I was guaranteed a phone. They told me the phone would be available on wednesday. I call up yesterday morning before heading out to pick it up to make sure it was in stock, they told me they had it in the store but couldn't sell it to me as today is the official release, I tell them I was told it would be available wednesday, they say sorry but you have to wait. I head in early this morning, when I get there I am told that the entire countries stock was delayed so they haven't received it in yet but it would definitely be in later in the day on the courier and that no other store had it either, they say courier will definitely be there before 12. I call after 12 and am told that yes, two came in but they were sold straight away. The guy on the phone says "Sorry mate, first come first serve, there's a pecking order here and you can't just expect to get one, you should preorder next time." I tell him I am disgusted at this service and want to speak to the manager, who he says is busy and will call me later. An hour and a half later the manager calls and says "Sorry about that, we haven't actually got any in yet but the afternoon courier comes soon so you will probably get it today, we'll definitely give you a call today whether it comes in or not to let you know." That was at 2. Still no word. Screw WHS.

Who knew that a large discount retailer who pays their staff minimum wage and who has a long history of not getting it right especially around products which aren't their core product group, would get the timing of the stock deliveries on the countries biggest electronics launch this year wrong.. Oh wait...

Man... I am in the same position as you, I just want my stock. They got screwed big time by 2degrees with deliveries and allocation apparently. But I was offered a 16GB micro SD for the trouble and so I stay with my pre-order for another day.

Good effort WHS but next time choose a network that will support you better.

Ah, looking at XDA isn't good for you. Someone posted a screenshot of their usage, 2.5 hours screentime and 55% remaining. I don't think even low-def video or even e-reading on the One X could match that

How's everyone finding the battery life so far?

Lucky, all I got was a "We're Sorry, there's nothing we can do". I might kick up a stink when I go and pick it up. What WHS are you getting yours from?

Haha you are right about that, damn the battery life of this is smoking the One-X, although I'm still on v1.26, will upgrade it to v1.28 this weekend

Mines is at 5.5 hours 65%

Screen has been on for 1 hour 22 min

vs my GS2 which has been on for 12h, with a few phone calls, messages, google talk, screen @ 30 mins

@ 72%

But it's had no SIM in it for the last 5.5 hours :)

Edit: oh it seems Samsung has created it's own "Swype" sort of like the Asus swype, but a lot closer to Swype prediction.  Missed it the first time, it's under "continuous input" under the Samsung keyboard

Good day for battery today - at 5% remaining I'd had 4hrs17mins on it's first charge with heavy use. Expect that to increase to 4hrs30-5hrs screen-on with a few more charging cycles.

My phone was only showing maybe a 3/4 charge out of the box, screen (which was on high brightness setting most of the time) was showing 2:01hrs, plus had had quite a workout downloading about 600mb of data as well

Am giving the phone its first full charge at the moment so will be interesting to see how it goes, my S2 you could literally watch the battery % tick down when screen is on, the S3 seems no where near as power hungry by comparison

The S-apps are actually quite nice too, the calendar is a work of art and s-notes looks like fun

And I guess we can safely assume that the S3 battery is significantly better than the One X

Why though? 15% larger battery wouldn't make that much of a difference. Chipset manufactured on smaller process/pentile display drains less power/TouchWiz isn't as much of a resource hog?

I've just come back from my local Telecom shop to play with one, they said they'd only sold one today and had three in stock.

I thought the phone was amazing. I have a HTC One X but the S3 was so fast and smooth and fluid. I don't really get the frustration that some people express in regards to the screen, I thought it looked excellent with nice bright colours. Even deep inside the mall the GPS lock was quick and accurate.

My wife is on the $89 plan with 2degrees, but just month to month. I think I'll convince her it's a great plan for her and get her to sign for two years so that I can get it free.

32nm and pentile are part of the story, but mostly it's the High-K+ Metal Gate technology and software optimisation.

how much were Telecom pricing theirs?  2Degrees in the CBD had sold 9 when I got there

As most people were price matching, although they initially tried making me pay $1049, then tried offering me an $89 plan.

i said no to both

Just the RRP, otherwise free on a 24-month $100 plan or $199 on the $80 plan.
