P1n3apqlExpr3ss: And I guess we can safely assume that the S3 battery is significantly better than the One X

Why though? 15% larger battery wouldn't make that much of a difference. Chipset manufactured on smaller process/pentile display drains less power/TouchWiz isn't as much of a resource hog?

32nm and pentile are part of the story, but mostly it's the High-K+ Metal Gate technology and software optimisation.

And a more efficient and cooler CPU.

That's what I said "32nm and High-K+ Metal Gate"

Und3f:
Conflict: Pretty pissed at WHS right now, they screwed me around all day probably in an attempt to stop me from cancelling my order, also it didn't seem like any of their staff had any idea what was going on. This is how my galaxy s3 story went:

Pre ordered and placed a deposit down a week back, they told me I was the first person to do so and I was guaranteed a phone. They told me the phone would be available on wednesday. I call up yesterday morning before heading out to pick it up to make sure it was in stock, they told me they had it in the store but couldn't sell it to me as today is the official release, I tell them I was told it would be available wednesday, they say sorry but you have to wait. I head in early this morning, when I get there I am told that the entire countries stock was delayed so they haven't received it in yet but it would definitely be in later in the day on the courier and that no other store had it either, they say courier will definitely be there before 12. I call after 12 and am told that yes, two came in but they were sold straight away. The guy on the phone says "Sorry mate, first come first serve, there's a pecking order here and you can't just expect to get one, you should preorder next time." I tell him I am disgusted at this service and want to speak to the manager, who he says is busy and will call me later. An hour and a half later the manager calls and says "Sorry about that, we haven't actually got any in yet but the afternoon courier comes soon so you will probably get it today, we'll definitely give you a call today whether it comes in or not to let you know." That was at 2. Still no word. Screw WHS.

Man... I am in the same position as you, I just want my stock. They got screwed big time by 2degrees with deliveries and allocation apparently. But I was offered a 16GB micro SD for the trouble and so I stay with my pre-order for another day.

Good effort WHS but next time choose a network that will support you better.

Exact same story as you both but I wasn't offered anything over the phone. I am going in tomorrow morning the first thing and see if WHS is willing to put in some goodies for delaying my order...if not, I am definitely cancelling my order and buying it from any1 else but them.

Myth.

I've sold a lot of phones over the years. I've spoken with many engineers and even done my own back-to-back tests. The conclusion I've drawn is that the battery should be FULLY charged for the first FEW charges. There's a chip inside the battery which prevents overcharge. It also communicates the total charge of the battery to the phone, and calculates the maximum charge from the total number of cycles (Li-Ion batteries degrade with each cycle). If you don't fully charge the battery the first few times, the algorithm SOMETIMES records the battery's maximum charge as less than optimal. What makes things even more confusing is that during this calibration phase, the chip often sends a "fully charged" signal to the phone, even though it's still trickle-charging.

tl;dr ignore the phone when it says "charged" and give the first few charges at least 6-8 hours. Just leave it overnight. Preferably wait for it to be low or flat before charging it again. After the first few charges, it's much more forgiving. You'll get anywhere from 500-1000 cycles before noticing a significant decrease in battery life.

No probs. Honestly, if you ask 20 people you'll get 20 different answers. This is just what I've found. I got sick of all the conflicting advice out there so one day I had two Sony Ericsson K770s which I tested together. One I charged until the phone signaled it was charged; the other probably had ~10 hours. After that, the latter had about a 15% longer battery life with normal use. Of course, it wasn't a controlled test. Different manufactures use different algorithms.
