Been using MSN Health&Fitness app to count my daily steps for a while.
Unfortunately it's no longer available from early this month.
Any idea of any app doing the same job well please?

The fitbit app seems decent and doesn't require a fitbit; not sure it has a pedometer function (does MSN health&fitness have one?) but the fitbit app gps tracking seemed pretty good when I used it without a fitbit.

If you were logging food through it, the fitbit app also allows this, though annoyingly it doesn't allow you to track things in kJ, only calories, which very few foods seem to have on the packaging in NZ. Myfitnesspal seems better for the food tracking, but reviews seem to indicate it develops usability issues after a while - I haven't tried it long enough to see any of these.

EDIT: There is also "Microsoft Health" which is supposed to replace the fitness tracking part of MSN Health&fitness, but when I briefly tried it, it seemed pretty microsoft band centric and I couldn't figure out how to track exercise without a band or manually entering it.

Yes a simple pedometer is all I need.
Yet Microsoft Health does require a band to pair with.
Am trying Fitbit(26 MB!) at the moment, after tested couple other apps.
Thanks for your help!

I thought it was so stupid they got rid of that app. I used it every day and it was useful for counting the number of steps taken. I never uploaded any data, so no connectivity was required from my end.
However I now use the Active Fitness app and it comes pretty close ??

Disclaimer: I have an Android phone so haven't tried these myself, but a friend with a Windows phone was using a basic pedometer app called Run and Walk but recently switched to one called FooTPATH that he really likes - it brings a kind of game dynamic to fitness tracking.

Just uninstalled Fitbit. It shows exactly the same foot steps the Health and Fitness does.

Trying run and walk, and footpath.

I guess there is a underlayer counter supplying data to who ever requires. Because obviously the MSN H&F, Fitbit and Run & Walk are sharing the same database.
Footpath on the other hand uses it's own method unfortunately not very accurate.

So you'd recommend Fitbit?

Funnily enough I still get notifications from the MSN Health and Fitness app telling me I've reached my daily goal, despite the application (supposedly) being deactivated.

NO I wouldn't recommend Fitbit as a Jawbone user laughing.
Actually I still use the MSN Health and Fitness app. I lowered my goal to 5000 steps, so I can open the app twice daily by tapping the notifications. The app is, like you said, not really deactivated.

Don't know about you but I've found this app's step readings to be grossly inaccurate.  It may be that I jiggle my leg when sitting but I regularly "hit my goal" of 10k+ steps a day without walking more than 2km ...

Good to learn something newlaughing.

I wear Jawbone and I found out that readings from Google Fit, Health & Fitness app and Jawbone are pretty close to each other most of the time.

I've found Active Fitness to match the MSN app's measurings (I can still get in and check) - both record exactly the same number of steps smile

Yeah but I know for sure mine is over-reporting.  Your mileage may vary (see what I did there?)

Would buy one in a heartbeat if they were available here.
