Hi.
Have a friend who is with Xtra and can't connect to the Internet. Talking him thru rebooting his ADSL router. All the lights are saying it's connected, but can't go anywhere. Tried to get into modem. but page won't open.
Then he tells me he got an Email from Telecom a few days ago telling him that unless he did something to the Xtra McAfee anti-virus, his internet would die. He thought it was spam. so deleted it. Question is, did anyone else get this email, and is it real? Can't seem to find anything on xtras site, but they are never keen on coming clean... Hoping to fix this over the phone for him, as he won't ring Xtra "after the last time".
Otherwise will have to wait until next time he is in town for me to look at it.

Thanks
Pete.

Must be going blind in my old age, but 40 minutes of talking to an old person with computer problems has stressed me out...

Thanks
Peter

I had this problem last week, i.e. I couldn't connect to the internet either email or anything else though I don't know that it was so much a Telecom problem as a McAfee issue.  I don't use the Telecom Security Suite.

I have a new Dell laptop and when I posted my problem here on Geekzone one of the replies mentioned a McAfee issue that had been confirmed by Dell.

I did a restore to an earlier date and this fixed he problem.

Thanks everyone. Managed to fix it over the phone. Will reinstall the Xtra stuff for him next week. That was asking too much of an 80 year old...

McAfee issued an update to their software that managed to kill internet access on most machines that it was installed on.

Yep... And it wasn't just limited to Telecom customers either :(

I work for Telecom, but as always my views are my own.
