D-Link has finally made available Widcomm's 1.4.2.10a drivers for its DBT-120 adapter. Please note your hardware version for the appropriate upgrade set.

It seems that D-Link has deleted the 1.4.2.10a drivers from their download site???? I was able to pull down this set earlier today, but now they're gone.

1.4.2.10a is required for A1, A2, B2 & B3 hardware versions. Currently, only the B4 hardware version drivers are posted.

Maybe they'll be available again soon.

As an update, when I tried to install the 1.4.2.10a drivers with my B3 revision hardware, it failed with errors. After talking with technical support, it appears the driver set was pulled due to problems in its compilation of the build.

Please note that the 1.4.2.10 (without the "a") drivers currently posted on D-Link's site are specifically for the B4 revision hardware. They will not work with other hardware revisions.

If you're not sure how to determine the revision number of your adapter, it can be found on the underside of the adapter where the model number and S/N is located. Look for the model number located in the upper left corner (it should say "Model No.: DBT-120"). To the right, you'll see "H/W:xx" where "xx" indicates the revision.

D-Link advised to check back to their support site over the next two weeks for release of the "Build a" drivers.

1.4.2.10a are now available once again on D-Link's support site:

However, I'm still having a problem with installing. Process completes with no visible errors; however, the BT icon in my system tray is red, rather than white. When I double click on it, I receive an error message that the device cannot be found.

During the install process, the usual process of add new hardware occurs and Device Manager displays the adapter as enabled and working properly. Switching to different USB controllers on my laptop does not correct the problem.

I've been working with Level 3 and they are able to install with no issues. Since I've just performed a fresh Win XP install, I'm wondering if something may be missing in the registry?? Note that 1.4.1.6a installs fine.

Please let me know if anyone is having any problems (or lack of) with this upgrade...or if any insights for resolution come to mind.

Hello,

I get the following error. With the 1.42 Build 10a install

It's a B3 hardware rev device, works fine on the 6a version...... humm

"Your Bluetooth Software License does not include use with this Bluetooth device. [6]"

Well this DLink bunch are rubbish, the US no not answer their emails, the UK site has so may broken pages (missing) that I would not even leave the site up if I was them. The UK drivers are well............... and they are still in business!!!

Widcomm need to get their software to work, rather than stop people from using it (license ing).... oh.. that's the same thing... isn't it.......

This is the second bluetooth adapter I have brought....... Widcomm are giving bluetooth a very bad name in my books and dlink...

I feel better now... arhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Yep, get the same error message during install process. I've had several calls and emails with their "product specialist??" to resolve. He finally came to conclusion that my registry was trashed (even though I just completed a fresh XP install!!).

We then tried on another pc where bluetooth had never been installed. Started with 3.10 CD that came with adapter and then upgraded to 1.4.2.10a without uninstalling from control panel add/remove. Ended up with error message that bluetooth device is not connected. I then switched adapter to another USB port which started hw install process again but still nothing!!! I was finally told that it must be the adapter and that I should check my warranty on exchange!!!

There's several postings with same issues and my adapter works under 1.4.1.6a, so it's something with their build. About ready to toss in the trash and look for vendor who knows what they're doing!!!!

When you were testing the 1.4.2.10 build for TDK, did you come across similar problem? Does it appear that Dlink has not fixed a bug that was resolved in TDK's testing?

Also, during install the request for the Widcomm Key appears BEFORE asking to install adapter, which is different than previous installs?? Have also tried to run the BTFaeSEC.exe from install folder (note: in this build this program isn't being copied to the \bluetooth software\bin as in earlier releases) but still nothing??

Any insights?

Hello Chaps, I bet you guys have got the B3 hardware, further to that, I bet it's the version that comes with the 3.10 cd... From what I can see on the UK download page, the B3 Hardware looks a complete cock up, rather like getting spares for cars, one has to give the Vehicle indent number.

Chrismax, I've installed the 1.4.2.1 from TDK and now 1.4.2.18 (got my files one day before the official release). Didn't have any problem.

When installing the drivers it would aks to remove the previous install, and then continue with the installation. Everything worked ok.

I wasn't asked for a key. It looks like an upgrade process that other manufacturers are following. The instructions on the Bluetake's new update page say something about the key, but it's not requested on the TDK install.

Perhaps the DLINK and Bluetake are following a different path than TDK in terms of device authentication?

You say that you tried on a PC where you've never installed Bluetooth. Are you saying that you installed 1.4.2.10 directly, without even installing the original CD? I would try this, just to make sure there is not remains from an old version.

Hello, I have tried a install on a new XP install (Virgin). No joy, it did not work. Same error, i.e. no llicense, even though I had entered it. !!

No, I'm sorry. The drivers don't work with non-TDK adapters. The software is the same, but it'll not ask for a key. I think the software checks the hardware directly.

Great, so I'm such with this dlink junk... They realy need to get their act togther. I certainly will not look at any of their kit for the companies I look after.

Is the tdk dongle any good, do software updates realy work?

Thanks for quick reply as usual! Yes, I tried to install the 1.4.2.10 drivers on a fresh XP Pro system and receive error message as JohnneyBoy:

"Your Bluetooth Software License does not include use with this Bluetooth device. [6]"

Then prompted for the license.dat file. Tried selecting file in install (unzipped) folder, but BT icon still remains red. When right clicked, only option is to "start bluetooth device". When selected, then get the error message as in other threads that the "bluetooth device cannot be found." Tried also to select from CD and even tried an install of 1.4.1.6, kept this folder, then upgraded to 1.4.2.10 and selected license.dat from the 1.4.1.6 folder and still no luck??? Have tried to run btfsaesec app over and over, but nothing (neither confirmation or errors).

DLink support is useless (1st and 2nd level is outsourced and basically reads from a script). The product specialist from DLink didn't impress me as being a "specialist" in BT??

Guess it's also time for a new vendor :(

I have exactly the same problem with win 2003 server and DLINK DBT-120 Revsion B2
same error message :

Your WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software licence doesn't include use with this Bluetooth device. (6) and I am asked for an other LICENSE.DAT file.

I tried all drivers as provided on dlink site with no result. Dlink support is no use.

I am waiting for a verification of dlink license.dat from widcomm support.

Did you find a solution on your own ?
