This morning I spent some time adding new Windows Mobile devices models to our Windows Mobile Device Database. Very good stuff to do timewise, since there are a few updates and reviews available now for new devices.
For example, there is a review link to an upcoming new HTC Pocket PC Phone Edition, the HTC Prophet. This will be initially available with two different brand names (Dopod 818 Pro and QTEK S200).
Also added to the list are some older Mitac Mio Smartphone models (including links to reviews) and the first Palm Windows Mobile, the Palm Treo 700w.
Back in September 2005 I was lucky to be in San Francisco and attend the Palm, Microsoft and Verizon official announcement of the Palm Treo 700w (check the link for some pictures of that event). Now, courtesy of the American FCC, the official Palm Treo 700w manual is available on-line (and other Palm Treo 700w documents too).
They have done some interesting stuff - on top of using Windows Mobile 5.0 on this new model. For example, the Today screen (pictured) offers Speed Dial buttons, a special dial lookup field to place calls directly from that screen, and a web search field for searchs directly from the Today screen.
That's very nice. I wonder if we will ever see this in other Windows Mobile 5 devices, without using third party plugins.
Also, according to the manual, users will be able to find Treo 700w support information specifically for Verizon users (the link is to a Palm.com page not available yet).
