Ok, I've done it - bought some hitwise.com market reports. They cost an arm and a leg, but they offer some good competitive views of the Internet landscape.
All reports are based on Industry Segments, in our case IT Media. And they come with some juicy information.
For example, I've just found out that (within IT Media) Geekzone is the #2 site in New Zealand in terms of page views, and #3 in terms of visits.
What was really nice was to find out more information on the US-based report. Geekzone actually was in the Top 100 IT Media sites visited in the USA during Q4 2005, and only at the end it dropped to the #116 position. And in terms of pages served Geekzone was always around the 140 mark.
This is great stuff. Unlike other statistics available on the Internet, Hitwise does not require anything special installed (such as the Alexa toolbar). It measures traffic based on ISPs' information.
You ask me then, why this entry headline is "Geekzone Advertising Opportunities"? Because I believe we have a good case now, showing our presence in the US market, which is where most of the ads are delivered to.
