Hello folks!

To celebrate three years of Freeview service in New Zealand I have here a Magic MTV3600TD to giveaway. This is a Freeview|HD DVR (Digital Video Recorder), with dual DVB-T (terrestrial) tunners and 500GB HDD.

The competition runs until the 18th June 2pm, when I will lock this thread and draw a winner. You have two ways to enter:

1.You can reply once to this thread with some more information about what you have now in your home entertainment - is it just a TV, a home theatre, Sky, is it HD or not, etc. Make it entertaining. Just a "Me too!" is not enough.

2.Use our Twitter integration to send a tweet from Geekzone with the following message: "Be in to win a #freeviewnz Magic TV DVR at Geekzone http://tinyurl.com/38rcwc6". You can update your Geekzone profile to add your Twitter account here and send the tweet by updating your Geekzone status in the menu bar. You can enter once a day only and each tweet until the closing of the competition is an extra chance to win. Only tweets marked as "from Geekzone" are eligible.

As before, users who have been previously banned are not entitled to enter this competition. No purchase is necessary and it's only valid for New Zealand residents and will only be delivered to New Zealand addresses.

This would be a fantastic device to add to my Panasonic 42in Plasma, MySkyHD, Pioneer VSX-915 Receiver and Wharfedale Diamond series speakers. Access to those additional channels and a more reasonable amount of HD space to record too!!

ETA - Is it OK to post the message here AND on the same day tweet about it, or do I have to wait until tomorrow to tweek? Thanks.

We have a hand-me-down 23" Sony TV connected to a $199 Philips DVR connected to a $129 Philips Stereo DVD player. The DVR is wifi connected to the DSE terrestrial Freeview box across the room using a DSE 5.6GHz AV tranmission system because the roof antenna wire is not where we want it and we can't be arsed re-wiring the silly thing.

It's an ad hoc shambles but it all sorta works. but clearly....we need help.

Currently have MySky HDi in the lounge with HD ticket for the Movies package. Having premium services are great, but i do want to save money, and this FreeView HD|DVR will do that :)

Also, have a 46" Sony Bravia FullHD LCD, with the Sony Muteki 7.2 Home Theatre. Its loud.. This unit would compliment it nicely!

Family Room
32" Samsung Series 4 HD Ready TV (why does the female always get the smaller TV?? huh?)
40gb PS3 (for once, I got the 2nd hand gadgets)
Panasonic Home Theatre DVD (I dont have the attention span for a movie, so yes, I make my neighbours listen to Shortland Street)
My Sky HDi (Its full of shortland street, home and away.... all those things I like)
Logitech 785 Harmony Remote (too complicated for the man to use, so its mine!)

Lounge
40" Sony HD Ready TV (much to the husbands disgust and the household budgets pleasure)
120gb PS3 (It would have been cheaper to upgrade the old one than buy a new one, but its a new one!)
Sony Home Theatre aka Receiver with a Wall of Speakers (Seriously, I think sony decided that 5.1 should have been 6.2 but DAMN its loud... my poor neighbours...)
My Sky HDi (Full of war documentaries and things being blown up. Seriously)
Toshiba DVD Player (older than the average geekzone user, but cost a small fortune)
Sony HDD DVD Recorder (freebee with the tele. Hasn't been used since the MySky arrived. Has a layer of dust thicker than a ream of paper sitting on it at the moment. Not really, but you get the idea!)

If I got this prize, it would be the only classy thing in either living space! Goodbye My Sky HDi (okay, maybe one of them)

My parents have a pitiful 32inch CRT Widescreen with horrible analogue reception. They never get to see what the want because they are always busy being our Taxi. It would be awesome to repay them with an awesome tool (AND TOY) like this after their years of hard work!!!

i have a 60" bravia with a apple tv with the broadcom hd card running xbmc, sadly i am unable to get mythtv running on it, managed to get it running once, but the remote didnt work.

so for tv we are currently stuck on plain old analog tv :(

i have a server in the bedroom closet with all our videos and music, running ubuntu 9, has mythtv running on it, but since i havent got an easy interface to actually use it, its not doing much atm.

have been looking at getting a cheap freeview box just for the living room, but havent gotten around to it, so please pick me :)

We have a Samsung 40" Series 6 with Yammy amp and MySkyHDi. My most used bit is the XBox1 (old skool) which runs XBMC - it may be SD but still rocks.

The problem is the family room where we have an old 20 something CRT from the UK that cannot pickup NZ TV broadcast - to get around that we have an old NZ VCR with a tuner! A freeview kit would give the old girl another few years of life - keeping one more TV out of the landfill!

Procrastination eventually pays off.

Philips 80gb recorder.

With this I will finally be free of the horrible and slow philips dvd recorder firmware and be able to record in glorious HD quality :-)

Currently the philips is hooked up with s-video.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Currently, I watch a lot of my "TV" on my 24" Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP-HC monitor, and sound's coming from JBL Creature III.

Looking at purchasing an HDTV and build a "good enough" HTPC in next 3 months time.

Hi,

cool competition.

I have two home theatre systems - one in the living room, and one in the bedroom.
Both have Yamaha AV amps. 5.1 (but they are fairly old models - so just Dolby Digital / DTS - not the new HD audio formats.)
I have a nice new Panasonic blu-ray player in the living room, and a new Panasonic 50" plasma screen - which is very good.
In the bedroom it's an old Sony Bravia and an old DVD player.

In both rooms I have a FreeView Satellite decoder. Unfortunately, where I live (down in a valley in Whitby) I can't get a decent FreeView HD signal.

My next step is to upgrade the amp in the living room. But that will be a while away yet.

We belong to Fatso, and I have managed to wean myself off buying DVDs/Blu-rays - I just pay $27.95 a month now. So much cheaper than buying all the new releases. Fatso is very good value. The only downside to Fatso is you don't see the new releases till months after they come out.

I have a clapped out 21" Sony TV with a freeview sat decoder... or if the rain is heavy the 10" viewing panel of my kent solid fuel burner.

I have a nice Sony home theatre system connected to an average Sony tv, however the signal has to run through a crappy 10 year old (approx) video so that I can play the sound through the theatre system & watch the tv at the same time.

It sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't, every time it eats the tape (it has some kind of gremlin in there) and occasionally it just turns off by itself in the middle of watching something.

Help me Geekzone-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope! :-(

I currently have a 32" Phillips CRT and a Linn 2 channel audio setup. I'm waiting for a US post insurance claim to get the JVC HD990 that they "lost" (track and trace doesn't mean a thing).
