Just to let our readers know about our plans for reviews: we've had the Palm Tungsten W (GSM/GPRS) for testing, courtesy of Renaissance NZ, and tested it connected to the Vodafone network. Very neat device! Just received the new Nokia 3650, courtesy of Vodafone, and it'll be tested with a couple of Belkin Bluetooth adapters I'm also receiving for a review. So, come back again next week (from 10 June 2003) to read about all these impressive products .
Palm announces acquisition of Handspring

Well, looks like Handspring failed to deliver its promisse of revolutionary handhelds and Palm OS based smartphone implementation. Handspring will merge with Palm, and PalmSource spin off (responsible for the Palm OS) was approved. The design/hardware maker side will be renamed after the merge.
Apple iSync 1.1 released

Today is Apple's day on the news. The company also released a new version of iSync, their software for synchronisation of devices. The new version now supports Nokia Series 60 (including the Nokia 3650).

The report further predicts that in Europe almost 800,000 hotspots will be installed by 2007, while in Asia, by even the most pessimistic estimates, there will be over 1 million hotspots by 2007. A more optimistic estimate places that figure at almost 4 million by that year.
In-Stat report: wireless data services in Europe make insignificant arrival

With the exception of Short Messaging Services (SMS), wireless data in Europe, as in the Americas, has arrived with a whimper rather than a bang, reports In-Stat/MDR. The high-tech market research firm finds that, the prospects for 3G services, which are being launched during a seemingly unending telecom slump, look grim and newly launched messaging services such as Multimedia Message Service (MMS) and Instant Messaging (IM) will not reach double-digit (10%) penetration before 2007.

The Cellular News website reports another case of SMS dismissal. British The Accident Group has dismissed its entire 2,500 workforce - by sending them a text message.
