Hey folks,

I just posted at the end of a thread about the new maps... but I figured this was such breaking news, that it was worthy of it's own post. I'm a noob, so someone can flame me if my enthusiasm is mis-guided.

Long story short, I just went for a drive, with my Nokia N95 telling me where / when to turn to get where I was going... Yes I was in New Zealand, and yes, I was using Noka Maps... etc...

The short version of the how-to is:

Download & install Maps 2.0 on to your phone from here: http://www.nokia.com/betalabs/maps  (Edit: out of date)
Run Maps 2.0, then close down again. (This may be optional).

Download & install Nokia Map Loader 1.3.5 from the flash download drop-down box here: http://www.nokia.com/betalabs/maps (Edit: out of date)

Using Map Loader 1.3.5, download & install the new 12.5MB map for NZ.

Run Maps from your phone, select Option --> Extras --> Drive & Walk... and buy a licence for Navigation for "New Zealand & Australia".

Have fun!

ZaneO

Hey ZaneO,

I purchased and downloaded the voice navigation, worked fine at first, when I try to use it now, it says drive/walk navigation not available...

any ideas how to activate it again?

I also noticed when it was working i had a txt with the receipt #, which will stay on the top of my sms inbox, thats now gone too :/

Thats quite odd sounding. Unfortunately my three months navigation trial came with the phone, so I can't help you out here...

is there such a thing as non-voice navigation? and is it still a service that requires a licence?

i also remember back on the old NokiaMaps you could look up trip info... am i blind or has this feature been left out of 2.0?

That's odd.  I did the above but it only has "Australia" listed under "Drive & Walk", among other countries.

Thats what I said happened to me last week - but Nokia released a new 2.0 beta the day after I got the maps data - its available on that one.

I can't see a 'Nokia Map Loader 1.3.5' from the link you gave?

[edit] Is OK, I found it :)

Yep..

The page has been updated, and maps / loader have been released into the public domain.

You can now find the released versions here: http://europe.nokia.com/A4984199  (and probably all over the place - eg. maps.nokia.com )

Overall quite a nice package. Still a bit of info out of date though, like on my way to Geekzone pizza evening:
Upper-harbour motorway is missing, so on the way there I was "not on a road". Then on the way home, it really got confused and was stuck indefinitely in "calculating route"

Not whinging as the new Maps 2.0 is a huge improvement, just some observations:

1. I am dissapointed the option to view the "satellite status" is no longer available. Need to go into GPS Data app to check if in doubt. 2. Is it just me or when driving along watching as the GPS dot marks your spot (3d and normal), does the navigation give the impression you are driving backwards? Or at the very least not showing straight ahead?

Also discovered the north western m'way finishes (starts) at Royal road. "Go straight ahead and enter the motorway", huh what's this 4lane thing I'm already on :)

how do you actually use the voice navigation?

Do you use it through the maps application? or do you go through tool\connectivity\landmarks?

thecrippler: That's one way. From there, select a landmark then the "Start Driving" option. If you don't have a license you will be prompted to purchase on.

The other way is to select a destination through the maps application
