Whats the story?

Vodafone 777 has had a message saying their 3G network is experiencing problems with Voice and Data and technicians are working on this with the utmost urgency and to go back to 2G if you want to use data or voice.

This happened for a nearly a full business day last week.

...And there are no geeks talking about it on geekzone!

Anyone know whats going on????

3rd world technology, or at least 3rd world maintenance of technology.

It is common news now that Vodafone has major network issues on a month basis.

Get with it Vodafone!  It's embarrassing the country.

Not when you deal with international visitors on a frequent basis here in NZ for business, having to tell them their mobiles may not work because of network problems... again.

This is not embarrassing the country?  No wonder the brightest companies are headed overseas to do their business.

Vodafone need to switch to a new brand of sticking plasters. The current brand isn't performing very well.

I am glad Vodafone doesn't run airlines.

A fault is always "no big deal", yet they keep taking our money.

Don't sell your 3G service if Vodafone cannot run it properly.  Would Vodafone give us a refund for a 3G-less day?  Doubt it.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Vodafone is taking the outages very seriously with the Vendor! Vodafone do NOT want outages happening

You need to be on the other side of fence to see what goes on when something like this happens

Fair call.  I think the vendor needs a kick up the backside then.  It's giving Vodafone a bad look.

Ah, explains it.  I was sitting here all day thinking my iPhone was broken since it was constantly "Searching" or on "No Signal" or weak 2G coverage.

I was getting 2G coverage, but data was virtually unusable (presumably because so many people weren't on 3G)

Hmmm this PM only, how about my phone working dodgy on and off for the past two weeks , at Auckland Uni in town, sometimes I cant even send texts and its not just me that this happens to. (I even brought a new phone because I initially thought my old one was dying).Any way thanks John for the updates.
Oh and for anyone interested it looked like they pulled the entire 3g Network in the CBD down by 5PM-ish because scanning wouldnt pick it up only, 2g and NZ comms (which will be getting my business in the future).

If you are going to make such a claim, you need dates and outages to back them up otherwise it's a pointless rant.

I've had a mobile broadband card for 18 months now, and I haven't experienced any of the outages you speak of.  I'm actually very impressed with how a lot more of the places I'm travelling to nationally now have 3G.

Luckily I didn't need my laptop for any of my meetings this avo otherwise I would've been up the 's' thing without the 'p' thing.

Speaking of 3g beocming more and more available throughout the country, when Vodafone stated they were going to increase their 3g coverage to 97% of the country by May, i got so excited i skipped to the shops like a little school girl and bought me a shiny new 3g phone.... only to find out a week later on geekzone that it wouldn't work on the extended 3g network.

By the way, i've been working in Beach Haven, Northcote and Albany on the North Shore all day and had no issues with 3g coverage so it can't extend that far throughout the shore.
