The only folk not chorus customers are those on Vodafone or Orcon LLU connections, which currently are only in parts of Auckland you would consciencly have to sign up to those services in the last few months and would be well aware of the situation. Also those on Telstra lines, which only exists in parts of Wellington and Kapiti, and a few parts of ChCh.

Does that mean that since I'm paying Telecom for the line, (but Slingshot for tolls), I'm counted as a Chorus customer?

Like Vorbis, I'm in Whangarei but I haven't got a clue where the nearest cabinet would be. Does someone know what cabinet feeds/will feed the area around the Hospital?

I think there's one near Silverstream Rd. I'm up top of Maunu hill and they've put a large double cabinet around chest height on one side of the road, and removed a cabinet from the other side. I think silverstream is classed as HoraHora so that one might be the other upgrade scheduled for early next year.
They sure spent a long time under the ground putting that cab in...

Discovered the cabinet is on a mate's road that runs parallel to mine 150m away, its only about 50m from his house. Funnily enough hes on a 256k plan which runs at around 280k.

According to a status spreadsheet I downloaded from the Chorus site, there're supposed to be two cabinets. The one next to Silverstream road is the only one I've seen that I'd classify as in Horahora.

There should be one further in towards town around the shops, since that's about the center of the Horahora area.

Keep in mind the image registration on Google Earth is pretty variable, sometimes out by 4-5 meters or more. Also note that the markers displayed in each polygon are not the actual location of the cabinet, they are generated automatically by the mapping software, you can click on them to find out the cabinet ID though.

Pretty accurate for me, it shows im on the cabinet i thought i was and not another one at the far end of my street.

I suspect the kmz file is not complete, all the cabinets in my area are 300m or more skewed, and several missing that are clearly in the source spreadsheet.

I checked the Khandallah area polygons in Google Earth against the original shape files as downloaded from the Chorus web site and viewed in a commercial GIS, and for that area at least there doesn't appear to be any diffrence between the files. Also checked this against the Aug08 spreadsheet available on the Chorus page and this appears to match up OK too. All the KNH/* cabinets listed in the spreadsheet are present on the map.

I'm happy to double check some other areas if people let me know where.

Hi Dean, if you find the time check out the Waikanae ones, I know where most of the cabinets are, but the kmz files show them skewd a block or so nor, nor west.

After a quick check, it turns out all is OK in Waikanae, but it did highlight that there is some confusion over the point markers that appear inside the polygons. These are centroids that are generated automatically by either Google Earth or the WMS software, they are not part of the original shapefiles published by Chorus and they don't have any relationship to the location of the actual cabinets. They simply act as a handle that you can click on to find the ID of the cabinet serving that particular polygon.

So does this mean that there are no plans for cabinetising the left-out area of Khandallah? I'm 1.1 Km away from the exchange, and in the missing area...

I wouldn't be surprised if this had something to do with the availability of cable in the area
